Hadn't seen him play until the past few days down in Arizona with the internet stream going.

I'm starting to really get excited for the future. The kid just knows basketball and seems to make everyone around him a better basketball player.

Tons of pretty passes and can score both from creating a shot and driving or from the 3pt line. Seems to have a really good pull up jumper from the elbows as well.

Man I wish this recruiting class could have skipped their senior seasons and went straight to college. LOL

We probably be sitting at one loss right now.

By next year Iowa will have officially caught up with the rest of the league and recovered from the huge talent hole Licklieter put us in. Thank you Fran.

It will be young though so have to have some growing pains with that.

Remember he is playing against high schoolers. Not even close to a D1 team let alone a B1G team. He will be a great addition no doubt but temper your expectations.

Dude we had All Big Ten freshman each of the past years...Gessell should at least be 3rd team all american this year....and possibly in the race for BIG player of the year.

i'm sure there are a couple people with unrealistic expectations, but most people are just excited to finally have a PG who can score. the more scorers, the better.

Dude relax, we are all excited to get this class on board. But let's not go overboard. Fran is on the Crean/Beilein schedule, not the Matta schedule. In other words Woody and Gesell, are not Oden and Conley.

i'm sure there are a couple people with unrealistic expectations, but most people are just excited to finally have a PG who can score. the more scorers, the better.

I think it swings both ways. Many on here said Marble was a black hole, was a terrible shooter, etc. during and after his FR year. He has really turned it up. There is another poster on here saying Aaron White has hit is ceiling (another statement that I feel will be proven false next year).

Then you have the other side, you had a guy predicting that Gabe would avg. 8 pts. and 8 Rbs at worst, and possibly a double double, before he even played a single game.

I think a lot of people are going to expect a lot out of Gessell and Woody. Like most FR I'm assuming they will show flashes of their potential, and then the next game barely show up. That is the deal with most FR (except top 25 types, and even they can struggle).

I think the only constant will be the extreme side on this board arguing about all of it.....

Some posters on here see ptl video and assume guys will be amazing. PTL is a glorified YMCA Rec league. MG is a stud high school PG and will be a good player at Iowa, I just have a hard time believing it will happen his Frosh year.

I hope I'm wrong. I would love for him to come in and be able to average around 14 to 18 pts a game and dish out 5-7 assists. I just think people see one video or a highlight film and splooge all over the computer and assume him and woodbury will turn this team into a NCAA tourny team right away. I think its possible but not probable.

Good post and I see what you are saying. However....Marble, Gabe and White did not have the expectations coming in the Gesell and Woodbury are going to have.
