Just read that Dan Gable won his 1st Big Ten Coach of the Year award in 1993. How was that the first time? Did they not award one until that year? That is just ridiculous.

1991 Russ Hellickson (OSU)
1992 Andy Rein (Wisconsin)
1993 Dan Gable (Iowa)
1994 J Robinson (Minnesota)
1995 Dan Gable (Iowa)
1996 Dan Gable (Iowa), Tom Minkel (MSU)
1997 J Robinson (Minnesota)
1998 John Fritz (PSU)
1999 J Robinson (Minnesota)
2000 Jim Zalesky (Iowa)
2001 Mark Johnson (Illinois)
2002 J Robinson (Minnesota)
2003 Troy Sunderland (PSU)
2004 Jim Zalesky (Iowa)

2006 J Robinson (Minnesota)
2007 J Robinson (Minnesota)
2008 Tom Brands (Iowa)
2009 Tom Brands (Iowa)

It's nice so share the wealth. I'm sure Dan isn't the kind of guy that needs an award to make him feel better about the work he has done. But you're right that is ridiculous.

The award shoud be call the Dan Gable Coach of the Year Award.

Thanks for the responses. I don't feel as incredulous knowing it just started in '88. The comparison to Tressel is a good one, as many would be shocked to know that he has not won that award in football.

The funny thing is Brands is only 1 behind Gable now in Coach of the Year awards and I imagine he will win it again this year.
