DeJuan Marrero reaching out to Iowa?

Curious how a guy rated as a "poor" shooter can be the #129 prospect in his class.

Athleticism and potential...in reality, he is a really good defender and rebounder. He also can get to rim and finish, so if he improves on his overall shooting, the sky may be the limit for this kid. If he falls into Iowa's lap then it is a huge recruiting break Iowa needs.

the chances for Macon are better than people think,, he actually wants to visit and that is a good thing as the only other visit he has scheduled is Maryland
Hope we get him on campus on a fall Saturday when Kinnick is rocking...

Get him on campus for the Pitt weekend. Kinnick should be rocking.

Macon would be a bolt of lightning commit for Iowa, alongside Woodbury.
If Macon came, Lee might come also. That would be a dream duo on top of Woodbury to finish this class. Marrero would be solid also.
All three possess the kind of athleticism that Iowa desperately needs to add to the roster for good balance.
Illinois can afford to be pickier than Iowa with their loaded roster, but in the end guys like Marrero can end up beating the Illini...the difference is just not that great.

Some guys on this board get way too hung up on the stars attributed to possible recruits. All you have to do is look back in a few basketball annuals to find a host of highly rated recruits who just didn't pan out.

You're right, of course, but it is much more likely that a top 50 type player ends up being good that a guy outside the top 150. You get enough top 50ish players, even if a couple don't work out, you'll still have a really good team. If you get no one in the top 150 or very few, you end up like Iowa has been the last few years. You only worry about that highly ranked recruit not working out if you are only getting one of them every three or more years.

I'd take the big boys (UNC, Duke, KU, UK etc) lower rated (for them) classes in a heartbeat, let alone their good classes. You may end up with some duds, but you definitely end up with some all time greats.

Do we actually have a legit shot at this dude or was it just two guys chattin up twitter?

The last I saw, he had an offer and was talking about making an official, but that's been a couple (or more) weeks ago. Things may have changed since then, don't know.
