Gable is getting a statue

According to a tweet by Andy Hamilton, Iowa is going to put up a 7 ft statue of Gable outside of Carver.

The sculpture will have the same look - finish/color - as the Nile Kinnick statue and will reflect an iconic image of Gable coaching the Hawkeyes. It is expected to be in place when Carver-Hawkeye Arena hosts the 2012 USA Wrestling Olympic Trials on April 21-22, 2012.

Does anyone know if the pictures we've seen are the actual statue or just a prototype? The reason I ask is because the pics don't look anything like Gable. I would never know it was him unless someone told me...it would be a shame not to honor this legend appropriately.

They statue physique looks like a basketball coach...not the legendary wrestling coach. Also, the face looks like George Bush (the elder).

It doesn't look at all like Gable, hopefully Barta will make sure it is correct. Geez why can't they get it right the first time.

I agree. IMO we need to dip gable in goo to create a mold that we can use laser precise measurements to create the statue.

This statue looks like some Fred Flinstone piece of **** hand sculpted his likeness.

I don't mind the face. The real problem to me is that the statue didn't capture Gable contorting his body as he was coaching; as if he were the one on the mat competing... willing his wrestler to win.
