Picture of Montell's TD Against Russell in SF?

Brands thinks it's two.

B-t-w...isn't the key question here whether the wrestler gets 'reaction time'? I've heard opposing viewpoints on whether this is an actual rule, not a rule, or officials discretion...

One thing I do know is that I saw takedowns awarded for less, in particular, a wrestle-back match (for 7th) that they showed on ESPN during the morning session. The kid had control for about one blink of an instant, yet the referee awarded two...

Reaction time is a rule, but it is in the officials discretion as to how much time is allowed for reaction.

Does reaction time affect an escape/takedown situation? It seems like David Taylor gets an escape point and a 2 point takedown in one move. He basically sits-out then pivots into an ankle pick. Slick as hell but seems like it should only be a 2 pt reversal.

So, we needed the ref from that other mat...

As Brands said...(if reaction time is a rule) that you have to give Russel the benefit of the doubt there, because of his funk....gotta control him for longer than Montel did to get your 2...

If there was adequate time to snap a picture, then reaction time is a non issue. This is a takedown.

that's not true. You see pictures all the time of guys flat on their back, but it doesn't mean they should've called the fall. a picture is a fraction of a second.
When i watched the match i didn't have a big problem with the call. To me it was one of those that could've been called either way and it would've been hard to argue either call. Personally w/ college wrestlers today being so good at scrambling I like giving them reaction time like this ref did. It totally sucked because it was Marion, but i don't disagree w/ the call.

this is true i have pictures of my opponent locking his hands twice but it was never called in state finals and at the time i was pretty upset...a picture says something different then watching it live because i never would of called locked hands but still it sucks to see and im sure marion feels the same but in the end knows you can't let the refs decide the outcome

Locked hands are locked hands, it doesn't matter how long they are locked.

my point was the ref didn't make the call because it was so fast

idk what to think of this marion match check out the link from bobby douglas
