"Touchdown Iowa", that phrase may sound familiar to you if you are a Hawkeye fan, a phrase that you probably have only heard on the radio, but if you're in Emmetsburg, IA on the weekend of March 18th you just may be able to hear that familiar voice in person. Yes, I am talking about the official "Voice of the Hawkeyes", Gary Dolphin.

The Dubuque native will be visiting Emmetsburg on Friday night and will be at the Wild Rose Casino for a meet and greet with Hawkeye fans from 5p.m to 7p.m. Dolphin then plans to head over to the Cornerstone Pub for some more socializing with the Hawkeye faithful. Be prepared to have your Hawkeye knowledge tested as Dolphin has a few Hawkeye trivia question planned with prizes involved. On Saturday, Dolphin will participate in the famous St. Patrick’s Day parade at 1pm on Saturday afternoon. This will be Dolphin's first St. Patrick’s day weekend in Emmetsburg and he is really excited about being around the Irish culture for the weekend.

Does Gary have some Irish blood in 'um? I'm not finding "O'Dolphin" on my list of olde Ireland family crests.

If you have not been to Emmetsburg on a St. Patrick's Day, you have not fully experienced life. Now with the addition of the Wild Rose Casino, the celebration is even better than when I grew up there (Oh and if you go to the casino, behave yourself as my daughter works security).

Wow, I thought the guy who posted that the farmer's market in Neck Moines is the most amazing thing he's ever seen was the funniest post I've ever seen on HawkeyeNation, but this one takes the cake. That's sig worthy right there man. Nice work.

I bet that casino is hopping. The 81 year old chainsmoking gals on the nickel slots prolly get hella crazy.

So who does the play by play for the Hawks in the NCAA 1st and 2nd rounds while Dolph pretends to be Irish and schmoozes in the E burg?

St. Pats in E-town is no joke. I think it was actually featured in an ABC or CBS article last year as one of the top 10 places to celebrate St. Pats in the country....I think Chicago was on that list too. I can say that I've been both places for St. Pats, and sure, Chicago is "bigger and better," but I would rather be in Emmetsburg. That's just me though big-timer.

Disclaimer: I am not from Emmetsburg.

The NCAA Tourney comes first, if the Hawks win the tourney this weekend then Dolph will be broadcasting for the Hawks.

I was born in Emmetsburg but moved to Sioux Falls with my mom when my parents got a divorce. My dad still lives in Emmetsburg so I got back to visit him quite a bit and there is only one weekend a year where it seems like E-Burg and Sioux Falls have the same population and that is St. Pats weekend! Great atmosphere in Eburg during St. Pats.

I'd like to see that article.

As others have said, St. Pat's Day in Emmetsburg is a darn good time.

Was visiting a buddy while he was at ILCC in E'burg. That St. Patty's weekend is one I will never forget.......or remember, lol

Lets get as many as we can to get to Eburg and support the Dolph and the Hawkeyes on Friday the 18th at the Wild Rose Casino from 5 till 7pm if you can make it and at the Cornerstone Pub after that at 9pm or so.

Gary Dolphin is the worst play-by-play man in the history of sports broadcasting.

Let me say, I enjoy listening the Gary on the radio. He is not the best at calling the live action in either basketball or football (More so basketball I think). He does struggle at times.
However it is most of the other stuff on and off air that he is absolutely excellent at. Whether its post game interviews, advertising spots, MC-ing I-Club outings or dinners, meeting with fans, etc, etc. By all accounts the players in their respective sports really like Gary and what he does and most fans like Gary as the voice of the Hawks.
He could improve on his in-game play by play a little but I really like Dolph.
