I think May will make it as well. Basabe obviously will have a good chance too

Good for him. He's stuck in out through some pretty lean years.

Re: Gatens is 38 points away from the 1,000 point club

If he is lucky, he may get 38 wins in a 4 year career too.

anyone else thinks he gets blocked way too often? I feel like multiple times every game he will drive into the lane and try to do a double pump lay up. He should just focus on his jumper, if he could be lethal from deep we would win many more games.

Re: Gatens is 38 points away from the 1,000 point club

you are right. perhaps i should have set the bar a bit higher. like 45, maybe?
Gatens doesn't coach or recruit, why be a jerk about the Ws?
This was a thread about Gatens approaching the 1K mark. How about we focus on that instead of complaining.

How many former players have hit 1,000?

Looks like 38 Hawks are on the 1000 point club list. It's on the iowa official basketball website.

Some recent names:
Greg Brunner
Jeff Horner
Piere Pierce
Glen Worley

and gatens would have been a bit player on the teams those guys played on.

Worley, really? That surprises me. And how many travels did he have?

I love how some of you schmucks on this board and others love to make disparaging remarks about Matt Gatens. I don't remember Gatens ever stating that he was going to come to Iowa and be the next big star. He is just a kid that grew up the son of a former Iowa player whose heart bleeds black and gold and committed to attending Iowa and doing everything in his power to make them a better basketball team. He works hard, keeps his mouth shut and is arguably our best and most consistent player. He has the misfortune of attending Iowa during the worst period of it's long history and will most likely leave here without ever tasting NCAA tournament success. And for his efforts, he is subjected to the heckling of internet clowns who most likely have never played a single meaningful basketball game in their lives.
