Mike Leach

If (dreaming here) Kirk decides we need change at OC, Mike Leach would be fine by me. His character may be suspect, but the man can coach. Time to make deal with the devil!!

As for DC, if Norm cannont come back, Ron Aiken from AZ Cardinals would fit the bill. Former LB coach under Ferentz here at Iowa.

Granted with Leach, again dreaming, it would require a wholesale change in personnel!

It wouldn't just require a whole sale change in personnel it would required a wholesale change in philosophy. Ferentz has spent 12 years building a program based on defense and a solid run base offense, whether we like it or not, it's here to stay.

What about Dan McCarney for the DC? He coached with Ferentz under Fry and was a DC for Alvarez at Wisky.

I realize it's here to stay and Kirk's loves the pro-set attack, I personally would like to see more of a spead oriented offense with dominating ball control. I think that sort of offensive system would compliment our defensive style better. Again, just pipe dreaming here. I am fully aware it will never happen!

I wouldn't mind Dan being DC! Might want to return back to his roots maybe! Leach is a Saint compared to the Pelini brothers!!!

If you want Leach as your OC you might as well start cheering for a new team because you are destined to be eternally frustrated being a Hawk fan. I have no problem with the pro-style offense and I don't want to see a wholesale change in philosophy. Buy there have been pro-style OC's, like Norm Chow, who have been able to develop dominant offenses that use fullbacks and tight ends.

If there is a change at DC because of health reasons:
How about Wade Phillips at DC? During the First game of the year for "Fry Fest" --Hayden was interviewed during the game and mentioned that Bum(sp?) Phillips was his Defensive coordinator for Hayden at SMU. Bum Phillips is Wade's father, Hayden even said he used to "bounce him on his knee", and if there ever was a college program run just like an NFL franchise it is Iowa. He also would have uber job security because how loyal Ferentz is.

I do not think that there will be a change at OC. But if there is:
Why not Mark Farley? He likes to run the ball, he could be a potential replacement for Kirk if he were to ever leave. By then, Phillips may have gotten another HC job, and then Phil Parker could take over for him.......

........endless possibilities.

Wouldn't we all. Of course no way that happens. KF wants yes men on his staff. Not outspoken guys like Chow. But, I am telling you, a summer with Chow and Vandy would be insanely good.

We need a DC that can recruit. Phillips is not going to get that done. Let him go back to doing what he does best, pro - DC. Not too convinced on P Parker. Seems to have had an undewhelming internship experience.

In what ways do you know whether Phillips can recruit or not?? he would carry tons of clout with him about being able to get players ready for the NFL, and other coaches with half a brain know the tremendous skill that Wade possesses with being able to field incredible results with average players (sound familiar to the "iowa way"?). PLUS he has ties to Texas, with the longhorns being down this could be our chance to rebuild Haydens ingenuity on defense and pipeline to texas!!!

If we replace coordinators for any reason it should be pretty simple:

OC: Welcome Soup Campbell
DC: Welcome either Ron Aiken or Dan McCarney

KF certainly is the kind of guy to hire from within.

KF is a guy to hire within, and you list two guys for DC who are currently outside the program?

This thread is brutal.

I agree.

I'm gonna make it worse.

Former Wisky OC Brad Childress....heard he might need a job....Former Wisky QB as a QB coach D.Bevell.....He will need a job in about 2 mos.:D

Sorry Imported! Forgot you know everything about Iowa Football! You prolly thought we were going to be 12-0 this year too! Fact is, you just never know in
college football. Why would Kirk hire from within, after all of his defensive coaches were given chance to shine this year in Norm's absence and haven't really delivered.
Ron Aiken is essentially hiring from within anyway, been here before and did nice job! Quit being a D**K Imported!

do we really want to go down the michigan road? i am not willing to go through a time line like they currently are.
