Beating OSU ...

I know people are pretty down right now, but if Iowa beats OSU, it would be only the 2nd time in Iowa's history that they would have beaten Michigan and OSU in one year (a 4-5 team did this in 1962). I know it is little consolation, but at least it is something.

There's a lot riding on this game. People already view this season as a let down so to some a win would salvage this season. Also there are some big name recruits and some verbals visiting for OSU game. Oh and this will be on everyones TV throughout the nation on ABC. Huuuge game.

Was that also the last year that Iowa beat both Northwestern and Indiana in the same year because I can't remember the Hawks taking down that lethal combination for a LONG time. Let's think back to how well our great staff has done with those powerhouses since 2005:

2005 - lost to NU
2006- swept by NU and Indiana
2007 - crushed by Indiana
2008 - lost to NU
2009 - lost to NU
2010 - lost to NU

Good point and this is what is so tough when we lose to both NU and IU as other teams beat them up.

The hawks need to win out just to get this taste out of my mouth. There will always be the "what if" with this season, with this team. I guess it would be a lot more palatable if they won out.

Pryor isn't throwing the ball as well as Persa or Chappel and the game is at home, this is one of those moments where KF's NFL mentality is actually helpful. Not guaranteeing victory......I am optimistic.....maybe '08 Penn. St. game all over again.

I hope the staff can keep the players moving forward. The only thing left to play for is pride. A loss this week puts the team at 6-5 heading into Minn.....Minn will WANT to win the game, not sure Iowa will..... could be a devastating end to an already disappointing season

Sure about that...Pretty sure a loss this week puts us at 7-4 going into Minny...Since we are 7-3 right now and all.

This is definitely a huge game. If Iowa wins there is still a legit chance at a split Big Ten title, if Michigan can pull the upset on Wisconsin. MSU will lose to Penn St, so if we beat OSU then its a 4 way tie at 6-2. Plus even if we don't get a share of the B10 title, just beating OSU and knocking them out of the picture would be a big deal.

Yeah it ain't gonna happen, unless we make some drastic changes with our schemes. I will say this OSU will spread us out and allow Pryor to run all over us. They will also try to come out and smack us in the mouth with their run game. They have too many weapons for us to handle.

The only positive is Coach tressel is about as conservative as Ferentz, it will be a lot of boring football, with no risks being taken.

OSU 34
Iowa 10

I don't know that it will be that bad of a blowout, but I think this game will mark the beginning of the next era of Iowa football. The current era is a three year run where I'd say Iowa could have played almost anyone toe to toe and it didn't lose any game by more than 1 possession. I think Saturday's game ends that remarkable 3 year run.

That o-line looks pretty salty, though, so you never know, but I think the great run of every game being close ends Saturday and will carry into next season as the defense transitions to a new coordinator and Iowa breaks in a new QB.

I think it will be a blowout, but I think next year Iowa will be about the same as this possibly better.

The whole key with Iowa is (if we are preseason rated we fall flat on our face.) If we are not rated pre-season then we surprise everyone. I think Iowa next year will probably be about 8-4 or 9-3 next year. Vburg has been in BIG TIME games already, our Oline is gonna be good with Jewell, Robinson, Coker at RB (3 headed monster there.) McNutt and Davis are back at WR. Our defense is gonna be a little weak, but we will return majority of our LB and Secondary, now our DLine will need to be re-built, but we have been playing 7 guys this year so got a few returning.
