Unacceptable TV coverage for Saturday

ABC/ESPN coverage for Iowa is borderline ridiculous. Again Omaha ABC will carry the great pretenders and Nebraska. Which means DIRECTV will mirror on channel 210 in SD...with this day and age that is unacceptable. My wife will be stuck home watching in SD...I guess I don't understand.

How dare a Nebraska station carry the Cornhuskers. Last time I checked Omaha is in Nebraska, just like Davenport will carry Iowa games over Illinois games.

If you read my post guys...my problem is the game in SD...I know the Huskers will be on locally, I mean come on I have spent 49 years in SW Iowa.

I saw this on a sports media message board:

Winning Weekend; Big 12 Soccer Champs! - TEXAS A&M OFFICIAL ATHLETIC SITE

In addition, when a game is done in the “reverse mirror” on ESPN or ESPN2, the network has the technical capability to only do one “reverse mirror” game at a time in HD...so that means some of our “reverse mirror” games on ABC are on ESPN-SD rather than ESPN-HD...this happens to all conferences but ABC/ESPN is working to overcome the technical situation for next season.

BTW, I agree with Jon on the reverse mirror, I used to be in the same boat being a Husker fan in Des Moines.

In this day and age, especially considering ABC/ESPN is covering the game, HD should always be available. BS. I agree with the OP, it's ESPN giving us Big Ten Network folks the finger.

You could not be more wrong. ESPN is not giving us the finger, they are following their contract. The Big Ten contract with ESPN states that any game shown regionally on ABC must appear on ESPN/2 in out of market locations. So they are broadcasting the game on ESPN per the contract. I also would be annoyed if I didn't get the game in HD, but better than nothing. In the old days, those currently complaining about watching in SD would not even get to see the game on tv at all.

That would certainly be interesting, given that ESPN and the Big Ten are financial partners. ??? Remember, ESPN/ABC's conference contract is with the Big Ten. Fox has the Big 12. CBS has the SEC. Why would ABC/ESPN (same company) give the Big Ten the finger? In fact, as a result of our contract with ABC/ESPN, we get more television coverage than any other conference.

Will be interesting to see how the coverage footprint looks next year when Nebraska comes aboard.

Earlier this year ABC/ESPN chose to pick the OK/TX game over MSU/WI for those of us in central Iowa while nearly all of the rest of the Big 10 geography (including the eastern half of IA) enjoyed the MSU/WI game according to their coverage map. Guess they figure more Big 12 followers in central Iowa than Big 10 due to the Ames location?

Illinois games are on TV?

No $hit, just because the ABC affiliate in Omaha isn't showing the Iowa game doesn't mean those people can't see it, what I'm saying is if the choice in Davenport was showing Iowa against someone or Illiniois against someone then the ABC affiliate in Davenport will show the Hawks on ABC and the Illini would get bumped to a different channel such as ESPN just like the Omaha affiliate choose the Huskers and bumped the Hawks to ESPN.

Isn't this a problem with the cable provider and not ESPN? Out in California ESPN/ESPN2 and ABC are all in HD.

I guess I can suffer through it as long as B10 network isn't doing the game with Chris...(Martin? can't rem his last name) He has to be the worst commentator on TV.

I understood that the only time there was a problem was when there are 3 games, one would be SD. This week since there are only 2; I believe the Hawks will be HD on ESPN in areas where Nebraska is on ABC. Am I wrong here?

Omaha is in Nebraska.

I am disappointed it isn't in HD, but it could be worse. I live in Missouri and we've been able to watch 2-3 games thus far all season! I am not a fan, so I don't care. But, the Tigers are not on here unless it is a big game. It is incredible, MU fans should be outraged.
Great to be a Hawks fan!!!!

Here in the sticks and wilds of southern iowa we get those in HD too.... it is the mirror game from ABC and both satellite TV companies are showing it in SD.

If you look on coverage map....everyone who does not get Iowa on ABC gets SD....

The footnote on the coverage map says that ESPNewsHD will be shown on ESPN HD in the areas where the Mizzou/Nebby game is on ABC, while the Iowa game is relegated to ESPN SD. That coverage would make more sense to me if ESPN had something else to show on ESPN HD (I think last week it was Nascar) during the 2:30 time slot, but is ESPNews HD, which many already get on a different channel, really a better move for ESPN HD than the Iowa/Mich. St. game? I guess it must be to ESPN? Anyone have thoughts on this issue?

The answer is easy Stevie-boy....time for you to move!

You should not be surprised by this, my fellow SW Iowan. It's Omaha, of course they're going to show Nebraska any chance they get. Just another day in paradise. Oh, by the way, I'm getting more worried all the time that these "pretenders" are going to come in next year and make the B10 look like a bunch of fools. Which will make my life even more miserable.
