Time and Heat

Are the Hawkeyes using their indoor practice facility this week? Can they turn the heat up to 90 degrees during practice? I heard they are practicing at 9:00 all week. Both of these things should be used this week to ward off the bio-rhythm nightmare from the ASU game several years back.

I was going to start a thread asking if anyone knew what Iowa was doing to prepare for the start time and temperature but maybe I can get it answered in this thread.

Does anyone know when Iowa plans on heading to Arizona? Ideally, if Iowa could take a Wednesday afternoon flight out to Tuscon and then practice Wednesday night, Thursday night and Friday night, I think it would help imensely in getting acclimated to the game time and temperature.

However, I understand that these are student-athletes and missing 2-3 days of class is likely frowned upon, regardless of the importance of the game to avid college football fans.

As such, similar to the orginal poster's theme, does anyone know what (if anything) the team does to prepare for the conditions they will face this weekend?

I've read they have held multiple late night practices during fall camp (prior to this week) and even back in the spring camp. One thing you can be sure of with KF and staff is they learn from their previous mistakes in planning. See bowl prep as an example. They learned alot from the 03 Orange Bowl.

I had heard this too.

One thing that didn't help in that ASU game was that the game was delayed due to lightening.....making it even later.

I would think they would have practice everyday this week at 9:00, not just a couple of times in spring practice.

I don't seeing temp being a real factor here. At kickoff the temp will likely be in the upper 80's with next to no humidity and the sun will already have set. By halftime the temps will be in the mid to low 80's, which will probably be more comfortable than it was the first two home games.

The training and coaching staffs will have to pay special attention to make sure the athletes are staying hydrated as the dry air can suck the moisture out pretty quick, but I don't see heat being a factor.

People are overblowing this trip. The lack of humidity will be the ONLY factor. Keeping our guys hydrated will be up to our trainers. I guarantee Kirk never makes the same mistakes twice and he will have the Hawks ready to play. Put that in the bank.

I don't think there's any question that Kirk will have the Hawks ready to play, but if you think that the heat/time isn't a factor you're either drinking too much Kool-aid or not taking off the Black/Gold colored glasses.

These ARE factors, whether or not they have an impact is a different story, but they do need to be accounted for.

I don't think college athletes are going to be too bothered by staying up until midnight (equivalent to Iowa time) on a Saturday night.

There will be no shadows or sun glare for the players to deal with. The temp will be in the upper 80s with no humidity, and will cool off to the upper 70s or 80 during the game.

I've been to several September games at Kinnick where the conditions were more brutal than that.

Will it be a factor? Well everything is a factor, but I don't see this as being something the Hawks can't easily handle.
