Arizona: Nebby v. Iowa

Going back to last years Holiday Bowl when Nebraska embarrassed Arizona, how much has changed on the Arizona team? Looking back, Iowa's current offense is WAY better than the offense Nebby put on the field last year against them and they were able to put up 33 on Arizona. Then you have the defenses. I think Iowa's D is just as solid as Nebby's last year and Arizona scored a goose egg.

So like I said, what has changed about Arizona from then until now? I know they lost their stud TE who we didn't see last year. I also know their QB is in there because of how we bitchmade their prior QB. I also know they have a decent RB. How about their defense? Does it look any different than last year?

While I agree with you Norwalk, I think there are a couple of things that make this game different. Primarily, that was a bowl game that Nebraska had a month plus to prepare for their offense. That, and for whatever reason, Arizona was not prepared to play that game. It seems to happen to one team or another in most bowl games.

I think Arizona will have the revenge factor on their side, plus they are playing on their home turf. This will be a tough game for the Hawks but I think this team will be up to the challenge.

I'm not sure what they return on O but I think they only return 4 starters on D from last year so I think the Hawks can score 24 to 31 and that should be enough for a W.

I think that the differential in prep time is a big deal here. That's why the Nebby example really isn't applicable.

If you take away the pick six in the game last year that game was not really as close as the score may have indicated in my view. Zona lost a lot more than we did from last year's squads I believe.

Last year's game wasn't really applicable either ... they had a different QB and, if memory serves, and even less experienced OL. However, that said, I do believe that their D was a good bit better last year than it is this year.

not sure if this was mentioned in the thread - OC and DC are new, so maybe the old ones got caught up in their transitions out of AZ - but not sure on the timing.

They only return 4 starters on D. Im interested to see how they play Iowa after playing Toledo and The Cidadel the first 2 games.

Changes in coordinators are typically only a big deal if the changes also imply a change in scheme. For UA, the changes have brought about NO SCHEMATIC change. Furthermore, another instance where the change could make a bit impact is when the new coordinators suck as teachers. However, in the case of Stoops ... I doubt that he'd hire crappy teachers to complete his staff. As it is, by my recollection, he just juggled his defensive staff in order to fill the DC vacancy.
