Weird, I was able to see the article for some reason.Crap, it is behind a pay wall. The headline and what I could read does not surprise me. Bowl games are cheap, people watch football on TV, and most players love them as not everyone is a Notre Dame.
Added bonus we get to see Fry go off on them every year.
With the current formula the 5th & 6th seated teams will likely draw what amounts to be a marginally competitive practice scrimmage. At times the 6th seated team will get a tougher draw. These games with Tulane and James Madison are not competitive. Much as I don’t like either one of them, these games would be better with Texas and Notre Dame in their place.
I honestly don't mind them being there. I think the only way your going to get more competitive games is by minimizing the playoff field. I honestly don't see much difference between JMU losing by 17 against Oregon in an opening round game then I do with seeing Texas beat Clemson 38-14 or OSU over Tennessee 42-17 last year. Are Tulane or JMU legitimate contenders? Not at all, but not beating a dead horse, I'd rather see them get the opportunity to play against the elites then a team from a major conference that has had that opportunity to play those games all season long.Agreed. Time to unshackle from this minor conference auto-inclusion nonsense
