Just my opinion but I don't think Kirk would make an announcement until after the bowl game which in reality isn't too far away. The only way I could see sooner is if he is retiring for sure and the "secret" candidate they want isn't available anymore. Once a couple high profile positions start to get filled and the domino effect starts you need to announce that the job is available to try and get some candidates. Of course all of this won't matter if the candidate is in house.
I think that would be too late this day in age. It's an arm's race out there. This ain't 1995 anymore.

It all depends on who this candidate is and if they accept early. If they feel the candidate is wrapped up then there is no hurry but as I mentioned if they feel there is a gap and the other positions start to fill then they have to announce it.

Kirk won't want the attention before the bowl game if he can avoid it. The question is if it can be avoided. If Woods is the guy then nothing needs to happen. If Deboer, Dabo, etc are in play then this Saturday or possibly Friday night we need to see an announcement but not sure if he would do it at an away game facility. If Iowa is in play for a high profile guy it may take a little time for the musical chairs game to sort itself out so yes they need to get a jump on it.

If this really is happening and it has been decided on both sides, then I would expect an announcement after the Nebraska game. Give the bowl game some juice for sure. I actually would have liked the announcement already to give the Nebbie game some additional juice, but I understand why KF would not want all that hoopla on a short week.

It could just be the emotions that his unit kicked the game winner and not letting Lester down. Ironically, it was Lester's unit that seemed to put that game at risk.
Either way it seems like strange leap to make. Oh look, Levar is emotional after a big win so that must mean he's the next Head Coach.

Huh?

I think when people have takes that don't make sense to you it really upsets you. It's water cooler talk, man.

You think there's no way on earth KF is gone, my coworker thinks it's Woods next, other people think he's going to retire, some people think it'll be Fitz or DeBoer or some no-namer next, another person thinks we'll hear about it after nebraska, other's think we won't find out till spring....it just seems like you're mad about any other take other than KF is going to have a few more years. Internet sports boards are made for hot takes. If there were no hot takes no one would come to this one or any other.

99% of us (which includes me) are going to find out we were wrong in the coming weeks/months. It's just people throwing the scenarios out there they think are gonna happen.

Whatever happens (and remember I've made zero claims as to what will happen for sure)...what I'd really love to see is KF turn into Don Nelson 2.0 after he retires.

Grow the hair out, necklace, move to Hawaii, and take up weed farming/smoking with Willie and Woody. He's certainly earned it.

My man. Quit walking this back. You are on official HN record of saying 93% chance this mystery man is coaching Iowa next year. This is just your opinion based on what you've heard. We get it. Lean into it. You aren't on here making wild claims every month. We'll be gentle if it doesn't happen.

I'm not. I told you that 93% is my opinion. I can have a strong opinion and still have no idea if it will happen. It depends totally on a variable that I have no control over. Therefore, I have no idea if it'll happen.

I still think it will, but that's beside the point.

I think you're overreacting a bit. (understandable as you got yourself out over your skis a little too far) I'm not mad about anything, man. Just speculating and discussing like you are. Internet boards are made for "hot" takes, they also bring a lot of "luke warm" takes. As such, sometimes people are going to disagree.

I've always thought Woods would be a good candidate, too. He's a great young coach who's "Iowa" through and through. Speculation that he may considered is one thing. I just don't see how him hugging Lester is some kind of "tell" that he's the next coach. That was the point...that you clearly missed.

Where did you get "You think there's no way on earth KF is gone"?

I used to refuse to give odds to my clients on whether we would win a trial or motion by saying, "I am not a bookie, there are no guarantees in litigation." Now, I give them a number. Why not? Its a made up number with a heavy caveat. That is what Fry is doing here.

93%. Fry is on record that his information is good and there is a high probability KF is done after this year. If KF returns, Fry will have 7% credibility left with all of us. :)

Good thing I'm not a lawyer first of all, and I already have 0% credibility.

People are just frustrated that I'm not getting frustrated. :)

I told you what I was told (minus the identity of said candidate) - that hasn't changed.

Said I was 93% dure KF isn't going to be coaching next year - that hasn't changed,

Said I had no idea if it was for sure going to happen or not - that hasn't changed.

hmmm...*shrug emoji*

Don Nelson was really fun to watch when he played for the Hawkeyes

He also was fun to watch playing for the Celtics

In the era when NCAA freshman weren't allowed to play varsity, Nelson was joined on the Iowa campus by future Hall of Famer Connie Hawkins in 1960. However, after playing for the freshman Iowa team in 1960–1961, Hawkins was embroiled in the 1961 college basketball gambling scandal and left Iowa.
Hawkins was never charged with a crime and was later reinstated by the NBA, who had banned him.

Don plays poker in Hawaii with Willie Nelson, Woody Harrelson and Owen Wilson

Former NBA coach Don Nelson is spending his retirement in Hawaii, where he buys and sells real estate, grows marijuana and hosts a weekly poker game with Willie Nelson, Woody Harrelson and Owen Wilson, according to an interview in The New York Times published Monday.

Gotta love Don Nelson

Landing on the side of confusion makes good sense.

This is me, going on record. Who is my pick from what I know is available (not knowing any Nate Shelley's and also knowing that some "big name" coach isn't coming to Iowa)....I'm going on record and changing my signature to:

HIRE DEMARR GOODS

If Kirk is ready, he should announce before the bowl game. He deserves the recognition and send-off he would get as that game nears and is played.
