This is why they may be reaching for a home run hire in there eyes to help with recruit retainment, if they get the right guy in a timely manner, they may be able to make the calls to retain some of these recruits, especially if able sell stability that would be maintained. To be honest, with the portal, it's not as big of a deal as was 5 yrs ago. See Cignetti. A team should expect some attrition, but a stud coach may be able to bring in high recruits as well so it could be a wash.
I would be more worried about retaining the guys on campus now. There is a lot of returning talent, especially on D. If Iowa gets a good hire, and announces it early (like this weekend) and gives that guy a chance to meet with the players while they are on campus and still in team/bowl mode, you have a better shot at them wanting to stay. Yes, you want the high school kids too, but my priority would be guys like lose, Van Der Zee, the RB room, etc.

I would assume that if the "Fry Report" (that's what I'll call this) is true and that Beth and her staff/boosters are pursuing someone in particular, that would then mean it's not someone on the staff....correct??? She would have no reason to pursue someone already working in house to gauge whether or not they want the job. The only person on staff that would have to think about it would be Parker and he already said that he's leaving with Kirk. So who is the outsider mostly likely to make Iowa pursue them now? Fitzgerald, Campbell or is it someone who may be getting fired at season's end... DeBoer or is it someone else having a great season at a non-P4 conference and they want to wait until the season is over?

I think based on this scenario there's absolutely no chance that KF's predecessor is currently on the staff. I mean at 70 it's a given his years are numbered and I'd be shocked if there wasn't a coach on the current staff that wouldn't ride it out if notified they were his predecessor. IMO it'd have to be someone we'd have a very short window with in a situation KF was already well aware of.

That said I'm totally clueless. There seem to be some high profile coaches out there with no direct ties to the program, but I wouldn't know who would/wouldn't have interest as I haven't been following the carousel.

I would love to see LaVar get it and retain Lester and the rest of the staff. Obviously, Phil likely rides off with KF. Maybe Fitz takes a DC job to get back into coaching? Or Wallace slides into the DC spot. I would think that the best scenario to keep the culture here.

With

what you have been hearing, I would not be surprised to hear him announce his resignation shortly after the Nebraska game. Something just seems afoot around the program.
Just my opinion but I don't think Kirk would make an announcement until after the bowl game which in reality isn't too far away. The only way I could see sooner is if he is retiring for sure and the "secret" candidate they want isn't available anymore. Once a couple high profile positions start to get filled and the domino effect starts you need to announce that the job is available to try and get some candidates. Of course all of this won't matter if the candidate is in house.

Yes.

I have a coworker who swears up and down it's LeVar after they put out this video of Lester and Woods hugging coming off the field and LeVar teared up.

That would prob be the best scenario. Lavar would be able to retain the OC and they would make a great team. Obviously, they think highly of each other and respect each other. Also, maybe there is a small chance they could retain Parker for a few yrs. That would be the most stable transition. The upside is they may be able to retain some top recruits.

In what way would that indicate it's LeVar? Just as likely that he's emotional because he knows it's his last game at Kinnick if Kirk's retiring.
It could just be the emotions that his unit kicked the game winner and not letting Lester down. Ironically, it was Lester's unit that seemed to put that game at risk.
