Beth has been pretty good at keeping previous moves under wraps until it's time. That said, if Fryowa has heard from some folks truly in the know, others have too and it will leak soon.

He may not be interested in being a HC, but I think he'd be a great HC. Players respect him, coaches respect him and he seems to be a perfectionist with his defenses. He'd also be my top pick on the staff followed by Lavar. But, he ain't gunna be a head coach, unfortunately.

Lol thinking of the stir in this state if Matt Campbell was offered and took it to get out of the BIG 12. This is why the SEC and BIG 10 should end up having the best coaches in years to come along with the best players. $$$$ talks and if private equity is coming, look out.
I remember when the BIG network started and they were bragging how each BIG teams would get like around $7 mil each each. Programs were salivating. That is a drop in the bucket to where we are now and what is coming down the road.
I've been thinking that maybe Campbell is the secret candidate. Would have said no way a year or two ago but now? Nothing seems impossible. And I'd be down with that choice.

I wouldn't be surprised to be honest. A man of integrity and success at Iowa St. He's from Ohio so I feel he's always wanted to coach in the BIG. Day at Ohio St. seems to be there for a while and ND seems to be fine with their current coach. They may not have even bit on him at this point anyway so a team like Iowa in the BIG could pay him and he would have Iowa's coaching leash. Some would say that Iowa St. to Iowa would be a collateral move and I may agree with that to a point, but the conferences would not be a collateral move at all.

That would be an earthshaking move in the state and College football. If this were to happen I will be loving to hear the backstory as to why Campbell would leave Ames for the team out East.

........ again, the conference, the $$$ and the chance to make the College Football Playoffs. Those are the reasons. I'm sure he genuinely like Iowa St, the school and the football program. I truly feel he does, but the BIG 12 conference is not the SEC or BIG. Maybe he's fine with that and feels his chances of winning the BIG 12 are better and he stays. Only he really knows his aspirations.

I agree with all the reasons above and add one: Maybe he has realized that he has taken the Clowns as far as he ever will. And he'd like to see what would happen at a bigger place where there is more opportunity for a higher ceiling.
Of course we're all just spit-balling. He seems to be very happy there.

I don't know much about Campbell so I a not sure what motivates him if it's money or legacy? I believe he has younger kids and that can be an X Factor so moving can be a big deal with their friends, schooling, activities, etc.
Campbell could be mediocre at ISU for a long time and not feel a lot of pressure and that goes a long way with family security when your kids are small or still in school. I can't see the money being much different as ISU has some deep pocketed donors and if they didn't get hit by the injury bug early this year I think they are competing for a playoff spot. Heck last year they were one win away from the playoffs so I can be done there.
I think if Campbell were to leave for Iowa it would be because of Pollard

Exactly, and what I'm trying to say. He may be content and maybe he has young kids and likes it there growing up. Dunno. But, if he has aspirations of coaching in the College Football Playoffs and a chance to win the NC, he may be interested as you point out the ceiling at Iowa St. or the BIG 12 conference.

He probably has a better chance at the playoffs in Lames. All you have to do is win that joke of a patchwork quilt conference. Just be a little bit better than a team from Arizona. How hard could that be?
The Big 12 is always going to have just one team to qualify. Competing with Texas Tech and their billionaire donor would be a huge uphill climb. And they'd still have to beat out Utah and the Arizona schools.
Iowa isn't winning the B1G but we could climb into a playoff spot.

First, I don't accept the premise they cannot get two teams in. Unless Utah loses to a hapless Kansas squad this weekend, they will finish the season no worse than 11th and probably higher once conference championship games play out. They likely won't play in the title game, so they finish 10-2. Right now, The Little 12 has 3 teams in the Top 12, (same as the Big 10, BTW). So, to say they will never get more than one team in is demonstrably wrong just looking at this season.
So if the premise is which conference is it easier to get into the CFB if you are a school from Iowa? Gee, would I rather compete for second, place with Texas Tech, Arizona, Utah, or ASU; or compete for 4th place with: OSU, PSU, Michigan, Oregon, USC, Washington, Indiana.... That's a toughy.
Maybe it's tough for you but to me, the B1G would still be easier. I still don't buy the Big 12 getting two teams in, at least on a regular basis. I do think Iowa has a better chance of finishing four in the B1G. And as time goes on, the money disparity becomes accumulatively less advantageous for the Big 12. In other words, they get further and further behind the B1G and SEC.

I know a lot of people who publicly state they don't want a certain job or promotion. But that does not always mean they would turn it down if it was offered.
