All I can say is whatever CF had on that game was all exactly the same and they didn’t look like basketball shoes at all. Even the guys from our school that taped up their shoes, the tape wouldn’t stay on right.
It’s kind of like watching Canadian League football. Carnival side show.I watched some of the 8-man champ game.
Sorta fun to watch, sorta goofy to watch.
This x100. Huge disparity between privates vs public.Welp, private schools went 2-1 yesterday with 3 more playing today. IC Regina lost in OT yesterday. Had it 2nd and goal at the 6 inch line in OT. They have the #24 rated RB in the nation and didn't give it to him once in OT. Still don't get that one.
Part of me was hoping for the privates to go 6-0. Not that it would do any good, but the obvious would hopefully put some pressure on the State to do something (no way in hell it would, but still). Class A is the only class that had 2 publics schools in the finals, but that class really doesn't have many privates to begin with. Hasn't had a private champ since 1995.

There are 32 private high schools in Iowa with sports out of 329 total schools. That's 9.7%.This x100. Huge disparity between privates vs public.
Yeah, Regina screwed the pooch in overtime.
And regular season. In Illinois you have to either play up a class or join the state's parochial/private league.Require the privates to have their own damn tournament.
We should have an MMA league in high school.
How do we think a Dowling senior whose mom and dad pay to have their house cleaned and laundry folded would fare against some freshman from Ft. Dodge or Storm Lake who doesn't know if the electricity's gonna be on when he gets home?
Yup. How we’re the only state out of 50 with a private contractor running HS sports is honestly beyond my comprehension. It’s criminal.Keating was talking at halftime of the one of the earlier games.
When asked about the future of the 8-man game, he advocated splitting 8-man into two classes.
"To make things more fair for the kids."
Uh huh. Read: more games, more revenue, more exploitation.
He dodged the question about consolidation versus splitting the 8-man realm.
Honest question, a college recruiter spots a freshman playing at a public school that is bad at any of the sports and advises the parents to send him or her to a private school, are the parents wrong to send him to a private school? Some Public High Schools in major Iowa cities have poor coaching. When was the last time a Davenport Public High School was in the football playoffs?
I don't blame them either. The difference is that they don't have the low SES kids, which eliminates 42% (state average) of what a public school would have. 24% of low SES kids participate in athletics and 32% of those participate in more than 1 sport. If 2 schools have 150 kids 9-11, privates have 150 non-SES kids, while a public school would have 87. The problem is, they would both be playing in the same class, but the playing field isn't level.I honestly can’t be mad at the private schools. With open transfers high schools in Iowa basically have the transfer portal.
