Gundy’s Toast

He was the second longest tenured coach besides KF I believe too. Same thought went through my head about how Gundy went out. I see in his clause they want him to be part of the selection for a new hire.
That's actually pretty cool. He has been there for 21 years and has been the heart of their program. Why not let him at least have a voice in the next hire. He cannot be overly pissed about being canned. This is big boy football and the results aren't there anymore. No one likes to be told they are failing, but its part of what you sign up for in this line of work. I am sure he is a millionaire many times over and can retire comfortably. Hopefully, it is as amicable as it can be.

I wonder if the AD called him in for a sit-down and he got defensive and raised his voice, cussed out his boss and then...they pulled the plug.

$15 million buyout I believe so I don't think he will be hurting for money. He lost his DC who went to tOSU after the 2023 season (now at PSU). They fired last years OC and sounds like some wholesale changes in staff prior to this season.

My guess at that school is there have been many angry emails from people who have private jet money, and those private jet money people finally got together and said, "Here's $15 million dollars. If you don't take this $15 million dollars to do what we'd like you to, there will be zero million dollars coming later." Just like Frost.

And soon, Belichick.

I think Barta and gang put Kirk's seat in a food processing blast freezer every year. . It's not uncommon for some of those freezers to get to -50 degrees. Hell I think Kirk may have locked Barta in one of those a few times.

And Dabo. 20 years ago you’d never think Dabo’s seat was hot but it is now.
It should be but is it? I don't know his contract situation but he's had more success there then Gundy ever had. I'm sure losing to Syracuse has their fans all feeling a type of way about it. I just have a tough time seeing him getting fired during the season. Maybe if they don't go to a bowl game at the end of the yr they will but I find it tough to see them actually firing him during the season. But who knows we've seen crazier stuff and those folks in the south are nuts.

Fickell seems to be next up on the chopping block to me. I woulda said it's a coin flip between him and Gundy for who was next before this week. The problem with firing him is that AD Mcintosh would be admitting to having made one hell of a mistake and he'd all but be firing himself by doing it.

And DeBoer when he gets shithammered by Georgia and drops two or three of the next four against Georgia, Vandy, Mizzou, and Tennessee
Ooooh man if it plays out that way holy crap. Vandy isn't a pushover either hell I think they're ranked. I could see Bama losing all of those. There's a scenario where they could and that's wild to think about. Those Bama fans gotta be nervous. No way do they think they have a national championship level team do they? Well duh they are delusional Bama fans of course most do. The rest of us know better anyway

All 4 of those teams are ranked. They also play LSU and Oklahoma.

I could EASILY see a 6-6 season, in which case they would strap DeBoer to a Saturn V rocket and launch his ass straight into the surface of the moon as soon as the Auburn game gets over. That dude wouldn't even make it to their bowl game.

The one thing Dabo has going for him that could buy him an extra year is his personality and obviously his resume, but neither of those is going to last long Dabo is probably the most likeable dollege coach out there and he does and says things right.

But at the end of the day those donors are paying millions and millions of dollars for CFP appearances and they won't do that in perpetuity.

That is a brutal schedule. It's worse than Wisconsin's.

Just to be bowl eligible, Wisky has got to beat the three unranked teams on their schedule, and knock of one of the ranked teams off. Given how they have looked to date (not really even putting up a fight against Maryland), this seems highly unlikely. I would not be surprised if Michigan beats them by 3 touchdowns. If they cannot take Iowa at home, I don't see them winning another game.
