What do we need to improve on?

Now that we've seen this years team in a game, what stands out that must be improved upon before next weeks game with ISU?

Sounds to me like there needs to be tremendous line improvement.

Port-A-Potty and bag-check lines were out of control.

Robinson made the most of what he could get on many runs which was nice to see. He ran hard & kept driving. There weren't a lot of huge holes opened up by the OL. I thought there would be more.

I was getting a bit nervous about some of the DB play in the 2nd half.

Where is Keenan Davis? Still waiting for his breakthrough game. Will he ever show?

Was hoping would see some more passes to McNutt, DJK & Davis. Didn't see CJ Fed in any play either. Good 1st game, though. One flag so pretty clean. Typical Iowa.

I thought for a first game we looked better on both sides of the ball then I expected and was relieved at how focused we appeared from the start and didn't appear to over look our opponent.
However, I must admit that I was puzzled by our D'line and didn't think they up nearly as much pressure on the QB against an inexperienced line. I did think however our defense looked very solid early on.

Don't get me wrong. Arob is a solid back. Will be particularly good as a third down back. But he is not a threat to break off a 30 plus yarder. That is what will turn this offense into a high powered offense. Once you have a back that can do that it opens things up.

Meyers' leg on kickoffs was very impressive to me as well. I think this is going to be huge once we get into the tougher games and field position becomes an issue. Donahue looked solid as usual.

I'm not at all worried that Ricky didn't take more shots down the field. To be honest this game looked like a scrimmage. It seemed like the staff wanted to focus on areas the team needed to improve on, like the running game and Ricky's underneath passing game. I thought Ricky looked sharp. He got rid of the ball quickly, on target, and to the right team. I'm not worried about the one missed long pass, because Ricky has proven he can make those throws and he will in the future.

The running game looked ok, and that is because Adam ran hard all day. The interior line needs to keep improving, and I agree James appears to be the weakest link atm.

I got the feeling that they were working on specific things...just like a scrimmage. Basic blocking schemes, short quick passes... When they jumped out to the big lead, it seems like they were confident enough to rely on the most basic things and continue to drill on those things. A very basic game. Could've been a much higher score, even with this.

And then they subbed almost all of the fourth quarter. All in all a solid outing. Ricky got 229 passing in 3 quarters. Robinson got 109. Good Hawkeye day.

You cite two examples from 8 and five years ago to prove your point? Over 11 years with Kirk running the show? Try again.

How about this from the PC this morning?

Stanzi said the Hawkeyes might have gotten complacent on offense.

“You could kind of see that from us today,â€￾ he said. “It’s natural for a team to do that, for an offense to kind of think everything is going to happen now that you’ve got points on the board.â€￾

Although this might be a little critical, I think it is a valid concern for a team that has championship aspirations.

Took what the defense gave them. CJ played a couple series in the 2nd half. No throws his way though.
