All-Time Starting 5 of Native Iowans

To help the discussion or maybe to help complicate it here are the native Iowans that scored 15000 or more points in their collegiate careers:

Doug McDermott 3150
Nick Collison 2097
Raef LaFrentz 2066
Randy Kraayenbrink 2004
Fred Hoiberg 1993
Adam Haluska 1847
Marcus Paige 1844
Kyle Korver 1801
Nate Funk 1754
Kirk Hinrich 1753
Seth Tuttle 1733
Matt Gatens 1635
Jess Settles 1611
Dean Oliver 1561
Greg Brunner 1516
Peter Jok 1508
Jeff Horner 1502

Definitely need Seth Tuttle on the list.

Man, this is a tough task. Lots of talent. But I would take this lineup against anyone's.

Pretty depressing that only one of them was a Hawk, who had his career cut short. :(

G: Kirk Hinrich
G: Fred Hoiberg
F: Doug McDermott
F: Chris Street
F: Nick Collison

Jordan Egleseder probably deserves to be on this list.

Russ Millard as well.

Kevin Kunnert, interestingly, played very little in high school. He hit his growth spurt between junior and senior year, miss time due to mono, and had other nagging ailments.

Dubuque Wahlert also had some powerhouse teams in those days, many of their players coming in from Dickeyville and Hazel Green Wisconsin or from East Dubuque.

Cuba City's Jerry Petitgoue, still going strong after fifty years on the Cuba bench, had to compete against the Wahlert pipeline for players from his own territory for the first two decades of his career. The players that Petitgoue lost to Wahlert probably cost him at least two state championships.

That Bowen Born kid hasn't played a second of college ball yet but I'll go out on a limb and bet he may earn a spot on here down the road. Love the topic and seeing all these names.

15,000 points is quite a career!

Hot take alert: If Glen Worley had gone to any of his other final college choices, he would have been an All-American and had a 10+ year NBA career.

One of several players who legitimately got worse under Alford's tutelage.

I think this is a little bit of a stretch, but, he was a good player.

Steve Waite. A really good Hawk and led Iowa City West to its only State championship from its opening in 68 until West finally got rid of all the City high graduate realtors and they built up the corridor.

Did everyone forget Bill Logan, Keokuk, Iowa. A member of the Fabulous Five, two Final Fours for the Hawks, a national championship game. Drafted by the Celtics, but chose to go into business. The only native Iowan, other than Chris Street to have his number retired.
