Campbell and where was Oliver Martin?

So two very unrelated topics:

1) So even as an Iowa fan I have to say Matt Campbell is likeable. The guy is calm and collected on the sideline, doesn’t whine, flip out, throw things or berate players or refs. He is well spoken in interviews and seems like a legitimately good dude. Seems to run a respectable disciplined, clean, program. Plus he is a good coach and I admire him taking a historically bad program and putting it on the map. Kudos.

2) no Oliver Martin last night? WTF? Iowa could have used him in space and on a couple 3rd and 6 plays. Was he injured?

Campbell is a very good coach. He's the real deal. There is no way he stays at ISU. None. He's going to have a Florida State or Tennessee or UCLA come calling with big time money and big time recruiting.

Oliver Martin will get his. It's early in the season. The thing is, Smith, ISM, Tracy, and Ragaini are all playing really really well.

I agree that Campbell is a good coach. He outcoached our staff for most of the night last night, but that isn't hard to do. As for Martin, he was out there a few times last night, but he looks to have trouble getting separation, as do most of our receivers. He has good hands, but isn't a speedster by any means. As for the receivers playing really well, well not sure because how many passing tds did we have against a team with a terrible pass defense? How much of it is the receivers not getting open, or Stanley just not seeing them? If you go to the games there are times where Stanley flat out misses guys breaking wide open. The pass to Smith Marsette on 3rd and 22 was a beauty, but he is unwilling to throw the ball like that consistently. It's almost like he said screw it, and just zipped it in there. Smith dropped a sure TD pass that should have been caught, although the pass was high and in the only spot the defender could make the play, but Brandon looked to be about 6 inches taller than their defensive backs, and was a very good high jumper, and we didn't take advantage of it the entire night. I'm not sure where our points are going to come from against better teams. We have no rushing attack again, and we will see much better defenses than what we struggled with last night.

Campbell is a very good coach. I think if he can go 8-4 or better this year he has a shot at those schools you mentioned. Michigan might be another possibility down the road if Harbaugh keeps flaming out.

Harbaugh is the biggest sham I’ve seen in a while. How someone with his resume can struggle with such institutional advantages is beyond me. I hope he drops games to Iowa, Michigan State, and OSU this year. That would really stir up the fan base, three Big Ten teams the Almighty Harbaugh cannot beat.

They won, so OM’s absence was a very minor complaint

I think Campbell will leave too, but he’s hard to get a read on. He’s not the swaggering, big talking type, so it’s impossible to know how happy he is in Ames and how badly he wants the big job. You know he wants the SEC job, because all good coaches want the rings and the competition at the highest level.

ISU fans with “insider” knowledge claim he loves Ames and is thrilled with the modest small town life and his 2000 square foot house.

He forces me to root for Ohio state once a year and I hate him for it. His recruiting BS with OM, higdon and Goodson, just irritates me to no end.

How can Campbell both be a good coach and have a terrible pass defense? Which is it?

How do our receivers have such a hard time getting separation, but Stanley is always missing guys breaking wide open?

Stanley makes a clutch throw at a critical juncture and you think he was just saying screw it?

I think we will find a way to get our points. We always do.

Campbell's defense will be one of the three best we see all year.

Kirk has somehow managed to win 154 games at Iowa despite being clueless and not difficult to outcoach.

Are you drunk?

Business as usual with Caddy. His ass is pretty chapped that we won so he doesn't get as much attention.

All valid points, but please don't feed the trolls. It only makes the come back for more.

1) Good news for ISU fans he won’t make a lateral move to another power 5 school. Bad news is he isn’t a secret, the big name schools will continue to call.

2) Lol, NS would have overthrown him as well. Just kidding. I’m joking. In all seriousness, @WinOneThisCentury is correct OM will get his. He could be nursing a minor injury.. It is nice for a change to have quality depth at the position.

I mean his trolling is so easy to attack because he either doesn't get his facts right or he contradicts himself or both.

If people out there think I get perverse pleasure out of having a street fight with a blind man and that I'm the true fool and that I need to cool it, then I will admit it and own it.

I think gester has a point, but there's feeding trolls and then there's feeding trolls!

Funny thing is, I kept thinking we should of ran the ball more.
The delays made it tough to get into any rhythm in any aspect of the game.
We definitely could have called more punishing plays on both sides of the ball.
But after seeing our lb's and db's get exposed, I'm glad Phil didn't get more aggressive.

An old wise Book gives these Proverbs:

“Don’t respond to a fool and his foolishness; it will make you look like a fool as well.”

The very next sentence:

“Respond to a fool so that he won’t become arrogant about his foolishness if no one responds.”

The wisdom comes from knowing when to respond

Phil was blitzing on a couple of series in the 2nd half. At least 3 plays Eppy dropped back into coverage.
