Almost every blue blood has been hit with sanctions since KF became our HC

Based on the current state of the program we'll get hammered to make an example to all the elite programs to show that this type of fate could happen to any one of them if they weren't one of the top programs in the country.

This crap has to stop on these boards.

Almost every blue blood has been sanctioned by the NCAA since Kirk took over as HC.

In the last 10 years alone Penn State/Ohio State/Alabama - all of them hit with sanctions

I appreciate that Kirk runs a clean program, although I suspect Iowa might get a few more wins here and there if he played with a fire a bit, and that’s ultimately what I want.

I guess we have different views on what should be considered a "sanction". When a big time program get's punished to the extent that it's knocked down a couple tiers and put in a position where it's actually punished to an extent that sets an example to other programs that the risk of a violation is not worth the reward then I'll agree with you. But the fact is the slaps on the wrist get nothing accomplished to persuade others to play by the rules.

Please explain playing with fire ... a bit. I will hang up and listen. :)

That article was from 2012. The difference is now, it seems that the NCAA isn't quite so interested in financial fringe benefits as they once were- in football.

Take some more marginal recruits, DJK types, maybe a fake-ish online class here and there. Standard SEC stuff. Some last chance U style kids.

Yes...”running clean program”=mediocrity (generally). NCAA hardly ever catches anyone, and, when they do, takes em 2 yrs to “slap on the wrist. Our hoops and football programs unfortunately always run squeaky clean (so we recruit lightly unfortunately)

I would imagine his handling of the rape case years ago would get a lot more negative attention today. The handling of rhabdo would be seen in a different light. So much has changed in a few short years.

What, you mean letting the case(s) proceed and dumping the kids? Yeah, pretty crappy.

Rhabdo="Big Deal if you hate Kirk" (but in reality, a pretty mediocre team, in terms of commitment, which showed up the next few seasons, that had problems with a workout that had been done before)

I always find it funny when people on this board use the SEC to make a point and fail to realize our conference in the last number of years has had some of the biggest scandals. Ohio State, Penn State, and now Michigan State are pretty big ones. Let’s worry about ourselves and just be proud of our staff and program. The consistent obsession w other schools and conferences is what we make fun of clone fans for, the little brother syndrome.

We are never gonna be SEC blatant in cheating and academic fraud in this day and age. Fry had some embarrassing moments in the past (basket weaving) and Kirk had his issues (DKJ, Rhabdo) but Iowa City is too small and cell phones too prevalent for that level of abuse. Of course, I know things will always be going on we don't know about and schools like Michigan and Notre Dame will be pushing the envelope with zealous alumni. I have been critical of Kirk the tactician before but not Kirk the program director Especially when you see the crap coming from North and West of us with coaches shooting stupid promotional videos and blanket offering schollies. They wreak of desperation and accommodations to move their careers forward. Kirk is at a good place in his career and can do what he wants or doesn't want. Promotional videos by former players (NFL players) tells me a heck of a lot more about the program than a coach making a "Pattonish" video. I like his never too old to learn attitude he's been showing the last couple of years as well.

.

I think his desire to see Brian succeed him allows him to be more open-minded. He's still conservative and stubborn, but us fans will benefit from the family ambition, which should lead to more than the perennial 7.5 wins. It'll be interesting to see what Brian does as HC. I assume there's already language in the contract mandating Kirk be head of the search committee that chooses his successor. The same unbiased committee that looked far and wide for Greg Davis' replacement.

NEWS FLASH - Paying players won't change this. The salary will just be the new floor. Teams and their elicit recruiting apparatus will continue to operate to get the best players.

I dont hate Kirk. He is what he is abd some of that is critical game.

You conveniently left out the early reports to hide the evidence by someone that has been reported. Not saying KF was involved. Am saying the culture has changed. There was in general a blame the victim mentality that may have been a part of it.

About rabdo, suppose it was a freak accident doing something that others werent. Leave that out. The Doyle award was BS. OK suppose it was already in the works.. Bad PR.

Yup. The bagman network of any particular P5 program is not going anywhere.

Rhabdo or no rhabdo, the Doyle award was stupid. Those kind of awards are meaningless when handed out by the employer.
