No National Duals

This sucks! When did Iowa wrestling start dodging big competion? Even if that isn't the reason, it looks really bad. Our senior line-up graduates and we pull out of big meet...

On the other thread there was a suggestion that the Hawkeyes might be going to the Virginia Duals instead. While I hate the idea of missing National Duals, it would be a tremendous boost to East Coast wrestling for Iowa to attend that meet. Maybe it's less of a dodging-competition decision, and more of a boosting-wrestling-nationally decision.

What a slap in the face of UNI. Iowa just took away half the gate they were going to get.

No matter how you cut it, it looks like we're dodging competition with a young line up to me...

I take my previous post back.

I will probably go and do Live Sports Video again but, it won't be as much fun. :(

wiltz please do go its not the same w/o that video for those who can't go

and yea crwrestling uni has got to be bummed out!

I had already planned on going. I made a commitment to do LSV this year at the duals. Just disappointing I won't get to call any Iowa matches this year. that was the most fun I had during the duals was doing the Iowa vs Minnesota match. Nothing like watching a match matside. :)

Its not the end of the world guys! Yes its bad for Uni but they will survive. As for the dodging the competion I'm sure that's not the case. Why not go out east and wrestle some kids that we might not see as much. Maybe they are looking for new competition to help make the kids better instead of wrestling the same ones all the time. Just some food for thought!

FWIW, Jason Bryant posted that Iowa won't be at the Virginia Duals either. Very curious to find out "the rest of the story".

JB is an east coast guy and I'm guessing has connections with the Virginia duals. I didn't read his "won't" as a "Iowa is not welcome in Va"(although maybe there is fear of a Va Tech fan riot) but more of JB knowing the V duals are full or Iowa hasn't been approached or approached anyone at the duals.

I just hope they end up going to the duals. I know it's been reported on here that they aren't committed as of today, but if you look on the national duals site they are listed http://www.nwcaonline.com/NWCAWebSite/Events/nwcanationalduals.aspx so I'm still holding out hope. Someone I talked to that is very close to the program and Brands said he hadn't heard any talk that they weren't. But if they don't go, I can't think of one reason why they wouldn't. It would fly in the face of everything Iowa wrestle is about in my opinion.

I think, if true, this blows to the nth degree. The best wrestling program in the country isn't going to be at the National Duals?? I just shake my head.

Granted, Oklahoma State (historically, far more sucessful than Iowa) wasn't in the ND last year, but this is a 'statement' the U of I doesn't want to make, and I don't care if it is about 'raising awareness' on the east coast.

Why would they. They have nothing to gain. If they win then it's because they were supposed to. It would just hurt their wrestling ranking.
