I actually think this may be one of the best clone teams since Seneca Wallace. Their defense is athletic and plays a different style. I think they will have a good conference turnout this year

The problem is they're gonna get smoked by Oklahoma next week and tcu in 3 weeks. They're gonna be a demoralized 1-3 going into Oklahoma state and west Virginia. They're likely looking at a 1-5 start to 2018.

This. Getting to 6 victories will be hard. Slip up against Baylor or Texas Tech and it is over. You might not see Iowa St. in a bowl game until the 2020 season.

I think ISU is better than last year and when you look through the schedule it will really be hard to be 3-3 through 6 games.

I agree. They are a good team. It’s fascinating to me how clone fans are reacting. They would rather convince themselves that they suck so that they can say Iowa sucks too instead of giving credit. I think Iowa is a tough, mentally strong team this year and ISU didn’t have enough. Similar game to last week except ISU’s D is way better than NIU

Iowa State is as talented as Iowa. They have great defensive team speed which will help in the Big 12. The Hawks are very fortunate to have great athleticism on the back end and our def line is brutal to run against. There werent many openings out there today. That is still a capable o line and an all-big 12 back. They might struggle to win 7, but they are going to be as good as most 9-3 teams. They will play a lot of people close. They are definitely in the same boat Iowa is typically in. When the schedule gets tough you worry about 6-6, hope for 7-5. When the schedule lightens up, you can see 8-10 wins. A ton of similarities in the programs right now. Recruiting is going to be the difference. I think Iowa teaches and develops better, but ISU is getting better athletes in a more 21st century system.

ISU isn’t as talented as Iowa. Iowa’s OL and DL are way more talented than ISU’s. Iowa’s secondary is more talented than ISU’s. Iowa has more talent at QB and TE as well. ISU has some good talent at LB and WR, but everything else is a big step behind Iowa.
The thing is it should have been much worse. Iowa turned 2 very short fields into 3 points.
Iowa’s defense is great. I don’t want to take anything away from that. But 3 points is abysmal. There is no way around that.
I’m upset tonight not because I want to convince myself Iowa sucks, I honestly think Iowa wins 9-10 games this year. Iowa State missed an opportunity to win a game here. There is a very real possibility of starting 1-5. I thought 6-6 or 7-5 before the season and that’s when we had SDSU on the schedule. Getting bowl eligible with this group is going to be tough.

6-3 score until 5:00 remained and an anemic offense held in check all day. They won as many games last year and a bowl. We might be a slightly better team but they are as talented.
Your overstating things quite a bit. Lets not forget ISU didn't get a 1st game and that made a difference and Iowa got home field this year. It was obvious the OL could have used the tune up. If we lined up these two teams next week against each other either team could win.
The biggest advantage Iowa has is the offensive line, ISU needs to work on that. Iowa should have an advantage at QB, although Stanley has been underwhelming so far. ISU has the better RB and WRs. Obviously Iowa has better TE's although I do think Allen will be decent for ISU.
I will give Iowa's defensive line the nod although ISU line is very good and might not be that far behind by the end of the year but the Iowa DL has more depth right now. Keep in mind the ISU DL was going up against a lot better line and still won the line of scrimmage, even being put in bad positions by the punter. ISU's depth is not bad but Iowa can play 8 DL. But I think overall the ISU defense is a little better due to better linebackers and a slightly better secondary but its close. By the end of the year either unit could be better.

I don't care how good they are. I don't care if they win the rest of their games. I don't care if Oklahoma comes to Ames and hangs a 50 burger on them. I don't care if TCU beats them like a rented mule. Iowa is done with them for the year.

Way less talented ISU teams have beaten Iowa, so to say that because ISU kept it close that they are as talented means nothing. Point out where I was wrong instead. Iowa has the better OL, TE, QB, DL and secondary. That doesn't mean ISU doesn't have talent, just they lag behind Iowa's talent at those positions.
