This is week 11. “As you look at it we were hoping for a higher level of consistency in our play,” Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz said. “That wasn’t there and that makes it frustrating and it makes it disappointing. And I don’t know what else to say about that. That’s where we’re at right now.” Week 11. Not 1, 11. Looking for a higher level of consistency? How about any level of consistency; I'd go for that right about now. I don't know what else to say? I can think of a few words.

It would be very revealing to witness first hand a meeting between KF and his coaching staff. I certainly don't know what it might be like, but given the dysfunction on the field of play, I have to believe the communication and interaction among the staff must also manifest a certain amount of dysfunction. And if that is the case, it's KF's responsibility to address it.

I said it after the Minnesota game and I still believe it is true. BF did not boil over at halftime only because of the first half refereeing in that game; that was just the straw that broke the camel's back because his frustration had been building up for a while. I think there was some clearing of the air then and it benefited the team the next week. Of course, the team could not have executed any better than they did against OSU, so then what happened subsequently? Did KF just reinforce his execution mantra again, demonstrating to his team and coaching staff that he felt nothing needed to change?

You don't have to be a psychologist to understand there is a dysfunctional dynamic in play on the Iowa coaching staff. And unfortunately for Iowa football fans, the main person responsible for correcting it seemingly refuses to see it as a problem. If Gary Barta was more of an AD instead of a glorified cheer leader, we might actually get these issues addressed. Hopefully BF can have a heart to heart conversation with GB at season end.

However, the one thing that is different is BF reports to GB. If BF does not have the guts to address the issue with GB, then nothing will change. BF needs to address this as an employment/management issue, not as a family matter. He's not only doing it for his own coaching future and reputation (which must be viewed as broader than Iowa only), he's doing it for the benefit of the entire Iowa coaching staff.

Yeah, there's only been 1 consistent factor in Iowa's offense in 19 yrs... not the same players, not coordinators and not position coaches...Head coach only. Time for the stubbornness to disappear. The master plan was for BF to take over in a few years. KF is slowly deconstructing that plan so if that's what he truly wants for his son, he has to let him make some calls outside the tunnel of vision.

Barta isn't a football guy and has no real power over the situation. If Kirk told him to run to Jimmy Johns and hold the mayo he'd hop in his car and do it.

I don't disagree with you about Barta, but nevertheless, BF must go to him first. And if nothing is resolved from that meeting with Barta, then it's time to make his case directly to the HC. If KF is too dense and stubborn to see that BF is only trying to address real issues so that they can move forward with greater success, then BF knows he needs to build his career elsewhere. The HC job will be open to BF when KF decides to hang it up, even if BF leaves Iowa now. And as I have said before, he will be in a better position to be the Iowa HC if he achieves success on his own merit elsewhere.

A couple years ago we still had a QB controversy going into the bowl game. I found that rather funny.

Since those 3 incredible seasons from 02 thru 04, when Iowa finished 8th in the national polls three years in a row, Iowa is averaging a 7-5 record over the past 13 years.

It's difficult to see how this is considered anything but barley above average. They've only finished ranked 3 of those 13 years.

I just don't get it that some think we may become Nebraska or something like that if Iowa gets a new coach.

Hell, we are already there. They actually average more wins than Iowa during this period and have finished ranked at least 7 seasons during the same period. And many of you think Nebraska stinks. I did until I looked up the information.

Assuming that BF is at least partially responsible for poor offensive performance, neither will any of the other assistant coaches. At least not in the company of KF.

This is another downside of nepotism and another reason BF (and KF for that matter) should go. The same scenario existed when Alford hired his dad as an assistant coach. Everyone had to have been afraid to speak their minds concerning performance issues of certain (family) members of the coaching staff or it may have backfired on them. So everyone just kept mum...Thank you sir may I have another!
