Iowa has verbal commitments from Kate Martin a 6' 0 guard from Illinois and from Monika Czinano a 6' 3 post from Minnesota. Lisa Bluder apparently has discussed a red shirt year for Tania Davis mentioning how difficult it might be to work her into the lineup if she returns as the Conference season starts. Really glad to hear Monika has given a verbal! Kate sounds like a very solid player also! If Tania red shirts it won't be tragic because I feel Kathleen can handle the point with ease. The Hawks are set for point guards for the foreseeable future. We need some help with a big Is their any way we could stretch Hannah a couple of inches!

I don't write on wrestling recruiting, either. Wish I could.

My focus is on men's basketball and football recruiting and covering those teams. Only so many hours in the day.

Some added information on Martin and Czinano. Kate Martin's Mom is the sister of Coach Jensen's wife. Kate's team lost twice in a row to Kathleen Doyle's team in the state tournament. Kate is a defensive specialist. She shot 40% on 3 point shots and 80% on FT's. She averaged 14 points and 7 boards on a team that played low scoring defensive games. Monika has grown from 6'0 to 6'3. She shot 68% last year and throws the discus and shot put in track. Both are rising prospects and should be valuable contributors at Iowa.

Just a quick correction. I was doing Kate Martin's stats from memory and slightly overstated them. She averaged 12.9 points and 5.2 rebounds. She also had 2.9 assists and 2.7 steals for a team that played many of their games in a slower tempo. At the banquet there was some speculation from unofficial observers that Iowa might have some interest in adding Kachine Alexander to the coaching staff.
