TD had his flaws. I criticized him too. But he was capable of getting us to the tourney consistently and had an Elite 8 run. Many programs would kill for that. It sounds to me like you want a coach who wins at any cost. In that case, you should support another team. Your philosophy won't happen at Iowa. If that's not the case, then accept that ALL coaches have flaws. And ours is putting us 'in position' for deep tourney runs. That's all you can ask for without baggage that a controlling interest of Iowa fans aren't interested in.
So "hope" for a new coach was enough for you to spend money, but back to back 3rd place finishes in conference wasn't? I don't like being lied to either and I call BS.
It's one thing to not support your team when they're terrible, but if you don't support this team after the last 5 years, you just as well find another team and be OK with all your friends calling you a front runner.

Couldn't get a collection of 8 to 10 NBA caliber players past the Great 8. Once those players (Ravlings) left, he was a garbage recruiter by comparison.

How many Iowa coaches in the history of the program recruited like Raveling? Would Raveling have won a national championship had he stayed at Iowa? How'd Raveling do after he left Iowa? How'd Tom Davis do at Drake?
Recruiting is great but there's more to coaching than bringing in players. Davis was a good coach at Iowa. To call him garbage is ignorant.

You asked me about Davis, not Raveling. Do you want to discuss Davis or Raveling? Davis walked into a situation that most coaches dream about. And this is what he did with that:

1987–88 - 24–10 - 12–6 - 3rd BIG - NCAA Sweet Sixteen

1989–90 - 12–16 - 4–14 - T–8th BIG
That's a meteoric crash in his first 4 years! He should have absolutely been fired after his 4th year. At any other respectable program, he's fired. That's garbage. It took him 9 more seasons to reach another Sweet 16 and he did it as a lame duck HC.

Raveling recruited well and left. His success as a coach after he left was worse than what Davis did here in his career. Davis then went on to do things at Drake that weren't done for a long time before he arrived or since he left.
You would have fired Davis from Iowa after Year 4? He made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in years 5-7. He made it to at least the second round in six of the next nine years. And what does it matter that he was a lame duck coach when he reached the Sweet 16?
He also dealt with the death of Chris Street and a series of injuries to Jess Settles, two of his best players in the '90s.
You and I have different definitions of garbage when it comes to college basketball coaches.

I respectfully, but completely disagree with this. Fans will be thrilled if we make the sweet 16. No one is going to be pissed about losing in the sweet 16 when we haven't been there in how long?
Most fans would. But the message boards would still be full of posts that say "Fran has reached his ceiling" and "we need to get to the next level".

Your perspective is one based on selfishness. The financial support of Iowa's athletic programs is not about the AD or the coaches. It is about providing the best experience possible for current and future student athletes. If your personal pleasure is all that you care about then I would suggest never renewing your season tickets. Someone who cares for the University and the kids that learn and play there will pick up your slack. Support the program or don't, that is your choice, but I just don't understand your short sided reasoning.
Because it's not even true. I don't believe for a second he is the type of person who is so optimistic he renews his tickets for a new coach, yet at the same time he is so pessimistic that he cancels them because we only make the second round of the tournament 2 years in a row.

I guess the 1/2 million NCAA student athletes that don't win a championship each year are all worthless. You can live your life "win at all costs" if you want, but maybe your season ticket money would be better spent on a University who's goals align with your own i.e. Baylor.
