University of Maryland President: UNC should get the death penalty for Academic Fraud

I can't believe the NCAA has let UNC string along this nonsense for so long. Its obvious they cheated and created fake classes just to keep athletes eligible. Now you have UNC winning a national title when they should be having scholarships revoked and disqualified from postseason play. Its a joke.

Maybe they deserve it, but won't happen IMO. I can't see the NCAA throwing one of college basketball's sacred cows that far under the bus.

Tell that to USC or Penn St. The NCAA will be compelled to action if they find anything of recourse. They will of course overlook anything in the gray area, but if they find clear violations they will have zero choice but to hand down judgement. UNC is not immune. This whole case hinges on how closely UNC walked that fine line. My guess is they walked it like a tight rope and the NCAA will have nothing to sink their teeth into.

They might get a hand slap and some schollies taken away, but they will NOT get the death penalty at all

That's pretty much what they did. They knew what they were doing. Sooner or later, the NCAA will have to act harshly or things will get completely out of control. The caveat is that corruption is pretty much a way of life in the US. Not that it wasn't there, but the dam has burst.

If one digs into the story of Barry Switzer and SMU getting clobbered, it was pretty much about how one man, a WW2 vet in the 101st ABN who was a hall of fame coach and a part of the Saving Private Ryan real family....singled handed took both down against all odds. Not likely to happen again.

As Jerry Tarkanian (RIP), the scourge of the NCAA brass, might say about how the NCAA will handle this situation, "UNC did something wrong? Time to sanction UNC-Charlotte."

Technically, he didn't say he he thought they should get the death penalty. He said he thought they WOULD get the death penalty. He himself was not passing judgement. It might seem like splitting hairs, but that is what he said, not what you put in the subject line.

"For the things that happened in North Carolina, it's abysmal. I would think that this would lead to the implementation of the death penalty by the NCAA. But I'm not in charge of that."

It's taking the NCAA this long figuring out how they can sweep this thing under the rug without anybody noticing. NCAA = JOKE when it comes to policing. There is absolutely no reason NOT to cheat. They make it worthwhile to programs.
