Way Too Early - 2017-2018 Analysis

25-6 overall record. 14-4 in the Big Ten. BTT - doesn't matter. 3-4 seed in the tournament.

Gotta wait until the schedule is out and we see which BTT teams we play twice, where we play the other ones, and who leaves for the NBA or transfers.

Remember this post: Uhl is going to surprise a lot of people next year and will play a lot of min
He is an amazing ball handler for his size and plays excellent D. He has a good shot. Not sure what it is but something else has been troubling him this year. He is playing tentatively he won't be next year.

I believe Nunge is known as a very good shooter including from 3.

Shooter lineup:

JBo
Ellingson
Baer
Nunge
Kriener

I would like to see Baer remain the 6th man. He excels there.
If that happens, McCaffery Starting?

I don't think you can get avoid starting Baer next year. I don't even know if Connor will play basketball, let alone be a starter.

The only other option would be put Ellingson at 2, Moss at 3.

Dailey could be an option at 3 in a role similar to Moss this year. Or Williams for that matter.

From what I saw out of Dailey this year, I certainly wouldn't feel comfortable inserting him into the starting lineup.

Baer is taking the step of becoming an upper class men. His role is going to be different next year and he needs to embrace it and do everything he can to continue to improve his offensive game and flourish as a starter.

Agreed. I wrote in my original post that I don't think anyone will be able to earn that starting spot over Baer. At least to start the year.

If someone steps up, it's nice to know we can move him back to the 6th man role and he won't miss a beat.

Starters:
Jbo
Moss
Baer
Cook
Wagner

Bench:
Williams - spot minutes at PG, maybe a few at 2 (maybe 10 minutes at PG, 5 at the 2)
Ellingson
Nunge
Pemsl
Kriener

If Garza comes in ready to play as a freshman, he could be the backup 5. If that happens, I still think there's potential for Kriener to take Peml's minutes. Cordell had a great year and shot such a high percentage but I still think Kriener has more long term potential because of his outside shooting ability.
Pemsl is a solid finisher under the basket I hope he learns to use his bulk to give the other team troubles. If he does that he'll be great.

I was just replying to the "way too early" part of the title of this thread.

How do you mean use his bulk to give other team troubles?

I think the use of his body/bulk is already one of Cordell's advantages. He has very nifty moves and finishes. I just have concerns that he's one dimensional and teams will scout that and will be better prepared the more they see Pemsl in the future.

Just seems like Dailey would have to gain 10-15 lbs. and become a lot stronger to make the leap to this point. He just looked so skinny and small out there when he did play.

I'll be interested to see what happens with Dailey this offseason. I was impressed with him in PTL last summer (I know it's only PTL). Obviously he's a candidate to transfer but if he sticks around I'll be intrigued.

He has a "wirey" body type but I think he has a ton of potential. Fran mentioned a few times that he'd love to play him, unfortunately we already had too many guys in our rotation.

If he can play defense and shoot 3s he will certainly earn some minutes. Not every player is ready to step in and play major college basketball as freshman. It takes time for some guys. Someone posted an article on hear and some of the other freshman had talked about how good Dailey can be in practice.

Maybe that extra guard we need to defend perimeter players and beat someone off the dribble is already on the team, who knows.
