Jok quit on his team

The first defensive play defined Jok for the game. He never made a play on the ball and stood there and watch the easy lay in by Indiana. He was lost the whole game and his turn overs were high school at best. Senior leader, no freaking way. He quit on his team and I won't miss him next year.

I agree that when the spread got to about 15, that it looked like he just flat out quit. But in his defense, on the play you're referring to, the guy was going to make that lay up regardless and all it would have done was give him a 3 point play and an early foul on Jok. But his hustle getting back in transition and his shot hunting and turnovers were awful.

I think he came back this year with the expectation that he was going to top last year and get a serious look from the NBA. It didn't help being a young kid and having all the attention and people talking about him leaving early, similar to Desmond King.

Now I think it's finally sunk in that there's a good chance he might be captain of the Azerbaijan Mule Jockeys making $65-70K and he lost his fire.

All the players are 20 year olds give or take. When shots fall, the team clicks it's easy to play with confidence. When the other team plays well and shoots 60% it's easy to get frustrated and hard to maintain intensity. Peter Jok is a very good player who has played well for Iowa. This was not one of his better games, but these insults are extremely childish and accomplish nothing. No one wishes he'd had a better game more then Peter. I'm glad he was a Hawkeye and hope he gives us some memorable moments in the NIT. Shame on the rest of you!!

Jok is not another 20 year old...he's the lone Senior on this team, the guy that should be the leader. Or perhaps...not. He said himself that Baer was the heart and soul of the team.

Let's not be overly hard on the kid. He is not Kobe or LeBron. He can't be counted on to dominate every game. Jok is a very talented shooter with average to slightly better than average other areas of his game. Jok has been an average defender his whole time as a starter. To have expected that to change overnight was foolish. He is a good kid and a sincere and loyal hawk. It is unfair to throw the kid under the bus because we as fans are disappointed with the result of a basketball game albeit a very important one. That said I do think it will be easier to replace Jok's contributions to the team than previously thought. The young talent in the fold has a much higher ceiling than what we have become accustomed to. It is important to remember that the sun will come out tomorrow. Let's not remember Jok for any perceived failures, but let's remember him for the humble and hard working hawk that he is and was.

Jesus Christ. You guys are seriously pathetic. This is why it's embarrassing to be a Hawk fans some days.

So you seriously think a college level athlete just gave up? Do any of you know Pete personally? For gods sake. The kid's from Sudan. His dad was in the military and died during his countries civil war. You think this is the toughest thing he's been through in his life? I doubt he gave up on anybody. Step back from the keyboard and call it a night. I don't like the loss anymore than any of you do, but you should be ashamed.

It's called sports, bruh. All fans do this. Iowa fans are no different. I agree though there's no reason to accuse Pete of something that almost certainly didn't happen. I appreciate Pete's contributions to this team and hope he can have a good career in Europe if he chooses to keep playing.

Having a night to think about it, I think it's more the way he carries himself. He is laid back and has a nonchalant style that gives the appearance that he's not giving 100%. I think his asthma may cause his energy level to become drained and so he reserves his energy for the offensive end. I don't think he's the exactly Energizer Bunny out there but to say he quit on his team is over the top.

Hey idiots...what happened to Jok against Penn State. He made two silly fouls and sat 18 minutes of the first half. Let me ask a question, do you think his coach asked him to be careful early in the game with fouls? Jok wasn't going to stop the basket based on the who was handling the ball for Indiana. Could he have made a better effort and made it look better sure...but a foul there does his team no good...and I'm sure he was directed to not foul in that situation or early in the game...like the first freaking minute.

This is where I have an issue with Dakich...he started this dialogue. He should do his freaking homework...if he was paying attention he would know Jok sat the entire first half with fouls in the previous game. He should have made a comment to that effect and that Iowa needs Peter Jok on the floor. Learn the game people.

Jok is going to be the fall guy for many, because he's the team leader. Regardless of him having a rough day, in my opinion it was the entire team that choked. One player is not solely responsible for that bad of a loss.

I should add that being one of two seniors on the team, I don't believe he quit, with that being his last shot at getting back to the tournament.
