Love Calhoun

Those of you who heard the entire post game interview with Bohannon it was insightful. I love Calhoun and his insight on the hawks. He made a key point to JBO. Remember your intensity and tenacity that your team played with. Let your pressure dictate your transition game. Jim was very impressed with this team.

I think this was the first time Calhoun watched Iowa this year. He talked about Indiana the first 10 minutes of the game. I don't believe he researched Iowa at all before the game. Not impressed with Jimmy.

I do believe Calhoun has done at least three Hawkeye games. He did the first Maryland game at Carver and had very complimentary comments about the Hawkeyes. Loved their toughness and intensity. Called them JunkYardDogs and mentioned that the Hawks are a very tough team to play and that nobody, right now, really wants to play a team like Iowa. He was very impressed with their second half comeback to take the lead after being schooled up to then.....

He really likes to watch Jordan and Nicholas play, called Baer a JunkYardDog in yesterday's game. He is difficult to understand sometimes because he has that New England accent and seems to mutter a bit, but when he is praising the Hawkeyes, I will take everything he says......

One must give him the benefit of a doubt when discussing college basketball. He is a Hall of Fame coach who has won three national championships.....

Color Comment Away, Coach Calhoun.....

Very nice postgame interview with Jordan, offering very helpful comments about running the team. Jordan did very well, praising his teammates and giving Peter credit for his progress.....

Very good exposure for the Hawks indeed.....

My issue with a Calhoun is I have to focus and concentrate to be able to understand what he's saying.

I'd take Dakich over Calhoun.

Agree with this 100%. He can be hard to understand but he was very good with Jordan postgame and Jordan Bohannon represents the Hawks very well.

Agree totally he has done at least 3 games...I love him doing the game. The point of my post is....keep up the junk yard dog mentality, stay tough, let your pressure defense drive your transition...that is how this team wins.

I just have to say that this was a really good post. Thanks, Duke!

I was at the Maryland game in CHA, missed listening to Jimmy in that one. I have no doubt he knows the game of basketball, just don't think he researched Iowa before Saturday's game. When any commentator talks non-stop about 1 team after the opening tip, they lose my interest as a commentator. His beak was obviously Red and going non-stop. Postgame was good to see sitting down opposed to standing on the court.
Go Hawks.

Like others have said, it's frustrating having to struggle to understand him. The soft muttering voice dies inside the tv. My dad is hearing-impaired, so he has no chance.

I too, think he has some very interesting insights. I just can't be sure cause he's so hard to understand.

It's like listening to fingernails on a blackboard when he calls games, but I also noticed his insight on the post-game interview with Bohannon and realized why he was such a good coach.

I know he did another Iowa game earlier in the year.

He doesn't come off very well on TV I don't think. He's just too hard to understand for middle Americans that aren't used to that fast talking New England accent. He's a really smart guy. Been around the game forever and I'm sure in a coaching environment he's great with kids. But I just think the way he speaks is tough for us on the couch to keep up with. That was one of the longer player interviews I can remember seeing with JBo. I hope he enjoyed speaking with him as well. I used to hate Khalid El-Amin. I still remember that short stocky pg of his tearing up college ball. Calhoun had some really good teams and players over the years that's an understatement. As far as rather listening to him or Dakitch goes that's a no brainer for me. Calhoun has credibility with me and isn't remotely phony. As hard as he is to listen to I'd take him every day of the week over Dakitch.
