Iowa DT Faith Ekakitie Says Nebraska OL Used Racial Slurs During Today’s Game

I'm not right that it's commonly more acceptable for black people to call each other that than white people?
Depends on what you mean by 'commonly.' When I was at Yale nobody, not black or white, said that word to anybody. So it depends on what you mean by your words.

Oh my God. Do you have any idea what year this is?

Do you have to take the sheet off your head when you write your posts?

Guys. The NFL literally just mulled banning the n-word during games because it was used so much. Not sure what ended up happeneing IIRC it's a fine in the league. Some black players were opposed to the idea, including Richard Sherman, who said "he hears it almost every series. You really think anything has changed since then? Also from the article this gem "its a pretty common word in the locker room, but when a white player uses it it's deragatory"

You guys might want to get your head out of the sand.

Just so I am clear, The N word will never be spoken by me, or any of my three children or seven grand children, and they are all on board with that.

If those children secretly watch Blazing Saddles (or Pryor/Murphy HBO specials or listen to rap music) you should feed them white oleander.

I think you are a little uptight about a word, and that's ok. But just because you feel so strongly that saying a word is that big of a deal (regardless of intent) doesn't mean everyone else is that uptight.

If a guy said it on a football field, even tho it's kinda douchey) it had nothing to do with racism. IT was 100% to get into his opponents head. I assume JJ understands this and that's why he said it didn't bother him. I don't blame Faith for being bothered by it but if I was in his shoes and I knew an opponent was just trying to get in my head, there isn't a thing in the world he could say that would bother me.

I understand your point and respect your view. I would only remind you that a long line of dictators have used language to influence some of the most brutal behavior in human history.

I would like to add that people who think less of people or treat people bad because of race are complete idiots. I'm just of the opinion that words mean nothing and intent behind words mean everything. In this case I would guess the intent was to get into an opponents head.

And I feel like it was the intent that was behind the words that was the issue. Not the words themself. For instance. If someone uses words in race jokes, it won't influence brutal behavior. That's because there is no ill intent there.

Guess we will have to disagree on this one...but appreciate that you take the stand that mistreatment of others based on their race is unacceptable.

You know what else dictators do? They suppress free speech. In fact it is usually the first thing they do, since free speech is the best defense against bad ideas.

I give up. You are beyond hope. I should know better than to involve myself in a duel of wits with an unarmed man.

Don't sweat it. You're better than everyone else. As long as you believe it . . . it'll always be real.

PCHawk you are right about some African Americans thinking. Not that it makes it right. But you see it all the time.

That's what's weird about getting blasted for that comment. I didn't even give my opinion. I just said some people think differently than others.

First, congrats on Yale. I would not have seen that one coming. 2nd, you went to Yale, Yale, an Ivy League school in an affluent upper NE geography...I went to a Division 2 State school on the middle of farmland Nebraska. It's an awful and ignorant word, but if you don't believe its monumentally more acceptable between folks of the same race than from white to black, you're being obtuse on purpose (I hope).

A good friend of mine in school, who happened to be black, once warned me before a party we were going to at his friends house, that he would say things at said party he didn't like and that I would never hear him say normally. He also politely reminded me that if I accidentally said that word, he wouldn't be able to help me....he was dead serious.

When he says "commonly", that what he means, as in relation to a white guy saying it.

The big part is that you are not in his shoes. You don't have his experiences both in Canada and in IC. I imagine the Nebby player had heard of his run in. What you mean is that if you were in his shoes at the moment you wold have thought that, but only if you were in his shoes for that moment only and you could instantly be out of his shoes.

And you are being obtuse...an idiot, bigot, snob, elitist, stupid, idiot, narcissist, ignorant inbred Iowan who married his cousin or sister (you aren't sure), (I'l refrain from real hurtful words....am I in your head or trying to really insult you?..you stupid fool.

Me not being in his shoes is why I would never judge how it affects him. Not big bothered by your insults prove I was right that it wouldn't bother me.

Also it's my cousin I married. My sister is just my mistress. Bot they're both really hot so it's cool.
