Calm Down Folks

Outside of the drubbing in the desert in 2004, I can't think of an early bad loss, where the season turned out successful.
Maybe 2013, after losing to Iowa State, where we ended up in the Outback Bowl.

The lines of scrimmages were brutal and this isn't something that gets quickly fixed.
2006 2.0
2010 2.0
2012 2.0

Whatever you want to call it.
All 3 of those years above had a returning starting QB, and we disappointed.

We almost had 2 in '09. To me I don't care if it's a win or a loss if you play a weak team that bad. If they miss that field goal or turn the ball over on that last drive, it doesn't change how poorly we played. The UNI game was worse than this one because UNI was a much weaker team than NDSU.

1. In 2002 we lost to ISU and went 8-0 in the B1G and went to the Orange Bowl
2. In 2004 we lost to ASU 44-7 (and it wasn't even that close) and shared the B1G title and went to the Cap One Bowl
3. In 2008 we lost to Pitt because of Ferentz's "gut", were at 5-4 after the last second loss to Illinois and finished 9-4 and drubbed the Fighting Steve Spurriers in the Outback Bowl.
4. In 2013 we lost to N. Illinois and went on to go 5-3 in the B1G and lose a tough fought Outback Bowl to LSU

Our defense was very average the last half if last year too. I blame this game on running base defense every single snap. I wonder if any other coach at the D1 level has ever done that before.

And we just gave him an extension

That's not to mention the years where we were a good team that under achieved like 05 and 10. Right now I would say there as a 40% chance we are a good team that under achieves, a 40% chance we are a good team that has a good year, and a 20% chance we suck.

I don't know if Rutgers is the type of team to judge the rest of the season on

#1--First road game
#2--First road game in B1G
#3--Iowa doesn't always do well in far away road games (albeit west coast games)
#4--Can we 'fix' what's ailing us, or is it who we are?
#5--I'll be there so our chances of winning are 50/50 ;)

And remember, first game at the Horseshoe in 2014, VT stomped on OSU and OSU went on to win the first ever playoff.

If we lose to Rutgers the season is going to be an epic dumpster fire. Sadly, I'm not confident at all since we couldn't even beat NDSU.

Lol, while I appreciate your optimism, that OSU team had Terrelle Pryor, Braxton Miller and Cardale Jones.

We have 1 player depth at LB, DT, WR, TE, and 0 at Tackles or C. We have depth at RB (even if the cosches decide not to use it) and QB. WThat's usually a recipe for 7 - 5 at Iowa.

I think Iowa fans are just sick of KF dropping big smelly deuces every time there are expectations of a great season. "Here we go again" is the feeling at this point.
All losses are not the same, either. We were run over at the line of scrimmage. That's our bread and butter when we do have great seasons under KF. It doesn't look real good right now.
