Calm Down Folks

They had 205 more rushing yards than us. They were clearly the better team on Saturday and we didn't dominate the line at any point in the game

I agree, but when you put up those stats, score a defensive touchdown, and are even on the TO battle you should win by 21+ points.

The game was weird and actually totally different than the stats showed. Like PC said, Iowa clearly dominated the first half, but was only up 14-7 and they should have been up 21-3. 3rd quarter was even, and like PC said we only got trucked in the 4th qtr. That was enough to win it on a last second FG.

NDSU deserved to win the game for sure. That doesn't mean you can't take a look at the entire game with a realistic view of it. Heck at halftime I had no worries about losing, we clearly looked like the much better team. Give credit to NDSU, they manned up, flipped the script in the 4th qtr and basically took Iowa's manhood from them.

I agree looking at the stats we were a missed FG from winning which is crazy. I also agree at half I thought we would roll in the second half. I'm not panicking or in fire the coaching staff mode but I do have some concerns about our defense

An FCS team was clearly the better team on Saturday. It's not like it was a gimmicky win or anything like that. That is at least somewhat concerning to me

Yes, they beat Iowa at Iowa's own game. No trick plays. They manhandled Iowa both line play with 22 less scholarship players. Chris Klieman and co outcoached Kirk and co.

So honesty is our run defense that poor or is it correctable? Like PCHawk said, I thought it looked good vs. ISU. IWas it play calling, scheme, missed tackles, fatigue? I'm up in the air as to whether I'm overlooking something that I could/should be very concerned about. I thought we looked good vs. ISU so that's my reasoning for not being in the mix with those that are very concerned.

I think it's lack of depth and personnel more than play calling or scheme but I hope I'm wrong.

Look out the sky is falling the sky is falling.Just remember one game doesn't make a season even though we stunk and we shouldn't of.Thats on everyone coaches and players.A lot of games left so hopefully they figure it out or it's going to be a Long Season.

Hard to judge one game. The game this Saturday should set the table for the rest of the season.

I think that's why I've tried to remain optimistic, because we looked great one game and then poor the next. That kind of logic or simply I'm a delusional optimist.

I'm not worried at all about the offense. Once we get our 2 starters back on the OL and Wadley gets a chance to heal up some, we'll be fine.

The defense is a whole other matter entirely. First off, our issues at DE are worse than I thought. A. Nelson, while he's been decent in pass rush has graded out horribly in run defense. What's even more concerning, though, is that Hesse graded out even worse than A. Nelson. Our issues at LB are also concerning, particularly Bower's spot. He graded out the worst of our LBs, and was allowed to remain in the game for all 68 snaps. That's an issue. Finally, both of our safeties were bad and have been bad thru the 1st 3 games this year. Couple all that with the loss of Reid to BC, and we could be in some real trouble.

The DLine depth is an issue -

Hawkeyes will have to outscore their opponents this year.

Not to be critical but if our back ups aren't good enough to play then whose fault is it.We have guys that have been in the system long enough that they either get it or move on and forget about football.

It looks like CJ isn't running because he doesn't look 100%. It looks to me like he is limited after the sports hernia surgery.

Outside of the drubbing in the desert in 2004, I can't think of an early bad loss, where the season turned out successful.
Maybe 2013, after losing to (Northern Illinois), where we ended up in the Outback Bowl.

The lines of scrimmages were brutal and this isn't something that gets quickly fixed.
2006 2.0
2010 2.0
2012 2.0

Whatever you want to call it.
All 3 of those years above had a returning starting QB, and we disappointed.

Our defense was very average the last half if last year too. I blame this game on running base defense every single snap. I wonder if any other coach at the D1 level has ever done that before.

I'm guessing you meant Northern Illinois and not ISU because we beat ISU in 2013....

I agree. Rutgers is not a good team. Iowa should be able to physically dominate them on both sides of the ball. I'm not expecting a shutout but the D needs to control the run game and limit the pass (basically Iowa's winning formula for nearly 20 years) and get back to their Raider package once in awhile and create a turnover or 2.

As for the offense, I've seen too much for the last two decades to have much hope here. The best I can hope for is Iowa running the ball well, control the clock, and don't make dumb mistakes. This has nothing to do with the last game, but this side of the ball is an utter embarrassment over the KF era.

If we see more of the same this game, then all of the 7-5/6-6 predictions are going to start looking very good.
