You liked our chances of going to the tourney earlier in this thread, but now we will be lucky to finish 9th or 10th in the league. You're the basketball knowledge guy, when's the last time the Big10 was a 10 bid league?

IF....IF.....IF......IF Fran does what I said he could do with this team. We don't have the roster for a half court offense. We dont have a Center and we do t have a PG. We play very little defense under Fran and the players that did play defense last season, have graduated. I think our options are limited on both ends of the floor, in traditional half court sets. A lot of that can be overcome by our over all length and depth in a transition game. It won't be enough to beat the top 2 or 3 teams in the league but it might be enough to give 4-14 some fits. That might let us slide into a 5th-7th place finish. Maybe.

And a 7th or 8tb place finish could get us into the tournament. I think it's possible. But I don't want to be in year 7 of a coaches tenure, hoping for a NCAA tourney bid. That's not good enough, IMO.

Anyone that knows what Google is and how to work it can do the research to LOL at that statement. I didn't have to do that because I started watching Iowa basketball when Lute was hired. One of my former coaches played for Miller.
After what year of coaching is it mandatory to start making the tournament every single year for the rest of your career?
Show me 3 three year runs where they won more games.

I would trust Jon's candid opinion on CW and the chances of our team this year. He won't give us that because of his ties to this site. But Jon knows basketball, IMO. I've rarely read anything he's written that I didn't agree with. He doesn't go out on a limb because he's an optimist and he owns this site. I don't fault him for that.
I do have my own access to Iowa Basketball. I know and coach with/against a lot of good basketball minds. When I ask there opinion, they share the same concerns. Not that it will matter to certain posters on this site.

LOL, why don't you take my bet on this then? You completely ignored my offer last time when you said we would be lucky to win 7 games, and now you are saying we would be lucky to finish 9th or 10th. Put your money where you mouth blowhard. Iowa wins a MINIMUM of 7 games in B1G play.
10th place has been 7 wins ('15-'16) 6 wins ('14-'15) 7 wins ('13-'14)
So what is it Lightning, do you know BB or not? I know BB, and I know we will win 7 games or more in B1G play. Your statement that WE WILL BE LUCKY to finish 10th, means you don't think there is a reasonable way we can get to 7 wins. So put up or shut up dude. I will accept a cash bet, or a bet on signatures, or self banning of the site. I will bet absolutely anything on this. I can show you 5 or 6 - 3 year runs where they lost half as many games. Nice try using "wins" when you know darn well they didn't play more than 22 or 23 games up until the 80s. You must think I m as dumb as your dad.

I quoted two posts of you completely contradicting yourself and you are still going to argue.
On one post you say we'd be lucky to finish better than 9/10 in the Big10. In another you say if Fran plays up tempo - running style (which btw is the style he likes) we may finish 5-7 and make the dance.
So how would it be lucky for a D1 basketball coach to maximize the talent on the roster he built? Are you claiming that you know more about basketball and this team then Fran does? Who are you? Why aren't you making millions coaching bball? You must have not gotten lucky like Fran...

As 21 pointed out, you have now according to you predicted a 7th place finish, lucky to finish 9th or 10th place, and then once again a 5th - 7th place finish. And you wonder why nobody takes you serious??

It is the best 3 year run in the last 20-25 year. The early 90's was the last time we made 3 consecutive NCAA tournaments.
