Anyone here concerned?
Pass rush
Pass defense?
Defending read option
Defending misdirection?
If you didn't notice, on 4th down Purdue lined up in punt formation, ran a double reverse for 25+ yards.
Yes. I am concerned.
Being a coach, you always keep something in the tank. I firmly believe the last 3 games we have been ultra-vanilla. Little or no blitzing, very little raider package...look for Phil to come with some blitz packages, both run and pass. Feel we will really open up the defensive playbook. I think we will see some man press with King and some safeties over the top on Mabins side. Key is our offense...make no mistake about it.

Good thoughts. And makes sense. I'd guess the coaches were thinking this game would be the toughest test. Save some defense film. But I still don't get the DL/DE going ironman -- backups look to be capable-enough of going a series or two (not mass-subbing).Being a coach, you always keep something in the tank. Saw these stats recently and no, I don't think stats tell anywhere near the whole story, but this looks like there may be some fatigue creeping in
» Yards per game allowed: First eight: 286.3. Last three: 415.3.
» Points per game allowed: First eight: 15.3. Last three: 27.3.
» Rushing touchdowns allowed: First eight: one. Last three: six.
Indiana you can understand, but the Gophers and Purdue put up similar numbers...

Gotta blitz Friday to get Armstrong off of his game.

Did you take note of Iowa's success rate when blitzing? Off the top of my head, I can think of three 20+ yard plays on blitzes from last Saturday, all of which happened on Purdue scoring drives. Hawks were pretty stout when they did not blitz. They had some successes with blitzing last week, but more breakdowns.
