I still believe that Texas wants Big 10

Here is the reason... you are Texas. You are the prettiest girl in the class that can have anyone she wants.

The Big 10 has more money, more prestige, better programs, and Texas would add to that dramatically. They would be an elite team joining an elite conference.

The Pac 10 has less money, less history, less prestige. They would esentially be making the Pac 10, to a similar degree that they make the Big XII.

Is Texas really going to base their decision on Texas A&M? Ish don't think so, lots of state schools are in different conferences and they still play each other every year.

The issue for Texas is that the writing is on the wall that the Big XII is finished. And the Big 10 is simply not moving fast enough for their liking. They are not going to be part of the implosion, they want to be as far gone from that as possible by the time it happens.

If the Big 10 called Texas up and invited them now, I would bet the answer would be yes. The question is whether or not Delaney can pull the troops together fast enough on this one.

For poops and laughs here is my conference prediction, mostly because I can't sleep right now:

SEC: LSU, Miss. St., Ole Miss, Bama, Auburn, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Florida, Florida State, Miami, South Carolina, Clemson, Tennessee, Vandy, Kentucky, Arkansas

ACC: North Carolina, NC State, Duke, Wake, Virginia, V-Tech, Boston College, Pitt, Syracuse, UConn, West Virginia, South Florida, Louisville, Cinci, Maryland, Marshall

Big Ten: Rutgers, Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue, Indiana, N'Western, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Missouri, Texas

Pac 10: Washington, Wazzou, Oregon, OSU, Cal, Stanford, UCLA, USC, Zona, ASU, Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, Kansas, K-State

Big XII: Iowa State, Colorado State, Boise State, BYU, Texas Tech, Baylor, Utah, Fresno State, TCU, Air Force, UNLV, Memphis, Houston, SMU, Tulsa, Navy

I support the Big Ten and hope that their final expansion ends up being phenomenal. However, I must say the delusional nature of some fans and others associated with the conference is remarkable.

The Pac Ten has no history? I will tell you the history I remember growing up in California. A Big Ten school would come out to Pasadena each year and most often get beat by a Pac Ten school. I went to a little unknown college named California Berkeley. We had a private school rival that nobody ever heard of named Stanford. Funny how people would come from all over the globe to attend those universities with no history.

No history? Really? You have obviously never heard of Student Body Right, or any of those statues sitting in Heritage Hall at USC. Guess you never heard of Gary Beban, or Freeman McNeil either.

Sure the Big Ten has more money. That is because of the Big Ten Network. You know how cable networks make money? Advertisers and basic cable dollars. You know the reason the Big Ten wants to expand? Their population is leaving. That is not true of the West. Accordingly, the enlarged Pac Ten has "by far" the biggest potential television audience of any proposed expanded conference and it is not even close.

Now, going back to conference expansion. Why would Texas want to travel to Iowa, and Ann Arbor, and Minneapolis in November, when they could go to Tuscon, LA, and Palo Alto. Why is there only really one crappy bowl game within the Big Ten footprint and why do we Iowa fans travel so well? Because the North sucks during winter, and winter starts early up here. And sorry, but really not everyone enjoys a crisp fall football game. I am pretty sure people in Texas live down there for a reason.

Listen, I live in SEC territory. I have been hearing for a while that Texas is going Pac Ten and will bring a big part of their division with them. I heard this from SEC people that are positioning themselves to pick up a few crumbs. The SEC is probably even more delusional than the Big Ten people to which I refer. If they are saying they have no shot at Texas, because UT is already going Pac Ten, you should consider their position to have some merit.

Sorry guys, there is only one reason that Texas would go Big Ten and that is the BTN contract. But they can do better working out their own contract with a larger and more populated footprint.

It's a done deal. I have been saying this for at least two months. Listen.

What kind of TV revenue does the Pac Ten currently pull in? I think they lag a long ways back from the Big Ten and SEC...and maybe even the Big 12. Why is that if they have such a great populus base? As Jon Miller has said...time zone, baby.
Clearly Texas and a bunch of Big 12 teams help in that regard, but still, saying the only reason that Texas would consider the Big Ten is the BTN is like saying the only reason I would consider Scarlett Johanssen is for her physical appearance.

I don't know? If the Texas legislature holds the state schools together they might be forced to go to the Pac 10 if they choose to leave. The legislature might not let Texas go their own way.

Why else would you consider Scarlett Johanssen? Her acting chops? You do know she has played every character back to Ghost World exactly the same don't you? Try listening to her dialogue closely from a couple of movies. Total flat monotone delivery that we all put up with because she is hot.

Now, getting to the Pac Ten contract, it does suck now. But I am talking about the expanded footprint that I have been talking about since Jon first posted the link on advertising dollars and the actual real dollar values of different options for Big Ten expansion. While the Pac Ten is not in a strong position being entirely west of the Rockies, it changes completely when you add the teams I have been saying are leaving the Big 12 for Pac 10 all this time.

Add to that, that Texas wants to be the driver of their own television network, not just getting sucked into an existing network and the writing is on the wall.

I said as much when Jon made his first comments about the Pac Ten being in a weak position. That was a short-sighted perspective because it didn't consider the results after the merger.

Listen, I am an Iowa fan. I know that a lot of you don't like that I don't always have the Big Ten blinders on. But I have been saying the same thing for at least two months. I also have been saying that the information is coming from SEC sources. Doesn't it seem like they would be kind of objective here?

Why would adding six Big 12 teams help the Pac-10 get a huge new contract? The majority of the games would still be in the west coast time zone. The demand for college football on the west coast is nowhere near what it is in the midwest and the southeast. Basically you're combining two conferences with terrible TV deals and expecting it to make a ton of money. And with 16 teams in the conference it would basically be the Pac-10 teams in one division and the B12 schools plus Arizona and ASU in the other, so you would only get Texas-USC or Oklahoma-UCLA once every eight years or so. Also, even if they get a TV deal that approaches that of the SEC they have to divide it 16 ways and there's no way Texas is going to want even revenue sharing.

My point was, that I would date Scarlett on her appearance alone, because I am shallow. Just like Texas would consider the Big Ten on BTN money alone, because they are shallow.
There are more cards to be played in this game,so while the Pac Ten is an option for Texas, nothing is written in stone,I suspect. You are a sensitive contrarian,I get it,no big deal.

What is the first rule of real estate? Don't be the far and away nicest house on the block. That is exactly what they would be in the Pac 10 and is already what they are in the Big XII. If they want to be a bigger better Texas, they need a few Texas sized houses with them. There is no one in the Pac 10 that compares to Ohio State.

Not only that but Pac 1o schools are dominated by pro towns and towns that are so far out in the middle of nowhere, with maybe the exceptions of Eugene and Tucson. Cal and Stanford are both basically in San Francisco. USC is in the heart of LA, Zona State is in Phoenix. Washington is in Seattle, and then you have the incredible metropolis of Pullman and Corvallis.

I am not denying that Texas may end up in the Pac 10, I am simply stating that there is no way that it is their first choice.
