Ferentz Talks Minnesota Loss, Illinois Game

I just get the biggest kick out of this thread, which reappears every time KF gives a presser. The comments on this site are so predictable, that I usually don't even look at it. When we win, of course, there are few comments made, but when we lose, OMG, the press and KF get blasted!

So, if the press decided to ask what have been suggested as "tough questions" what would be gained? If KF was smart, he would not answer them anyway. Would you feel better if he blasted individual players, his assistant coaches, himself? What in hells name do you think that would gain in the great scheme of things?

Finally, have you guys EVER listened to other coaches' post game pressers? I have heard LOTS of them over the years and quite frankly, they are no different that KF's. Yeak, KF is a Belicheck kind of guy when it comes to dealing with the press. Get over it. And, remember, what goes on inside the program between KF and the coaches and players is none of your GD business.

End rant.

Q. Tight ends have been kind of‑‑ is it they just haven't been opened? I assume that's true, that's the reality?

COACH FERENTZ: The ball goes where it goes. I don't know what to tell you there. No, we're not trying to conceal them or keep them out of the plan, I'll put it that way. Things haven't changed that way.

Classic KF, gotta love it..

Things you can guarantee you will hear a few times out of a KF presser:

ebb and flow
yes and no
that's sports
that's football
we didn't play well
just a matter of being more consistent
somewhere in the mid or late'80s where I remember distinctly
shore things up
something about the NFL
I don't know
we need to execute better

I'm sure there's many many more. Just the few I picked out of this one that I've read a million times from the other ones.

Bravo! Well done with that list. Hits the nail on the head! Someone should make a Kirk Ferentz sound board for phone pranks.

People still actually read these? I stopped 2 years ago and haven't even read this one. I see by the comments that I haven't missed anything yet.

Q. What makes the season a success at Iowa?
COACH FERENTZ: My standards?

Q. Yeah.
COACH FERENTZ: I don't know. You just assess the year when it's over.

Q. Tight ends have been kind of‑‑ is it they just haven't been opened? I assume that's true, that's the reality?
COACH FERENTZ: The ball goes where it goes. I don't know what to tell you there.

Weak...just weak. The man has no answers.

Those are the exact answers I was referring to in an earlier post. That is so weak and just I don't give a **** what you ask...I'll answer the way I want to. Those were actually good questions and he just shined the questioner. It was like KF was saying, "hey dude, if you haven't noticed...I only take the softball stuff...you throw legitimate questions at me and I'm taking my ball and going home." Weak sauce Kirk. There are four million reasons every year why you owe us answers to legitimate questions about your running of the program. It's part of what you are paid to do...so don't act like someone's pulling your dick around.

The truth is, if he wins 9 or 10 games a year...he can answer any way he wants to and no one would really care. But you lose to Minnesota 51-14, and people are pretty damn interested in what is going on and curious what the plan is to turn it around. Saying "the ball goes where it goes" is paramount to saying "go **** yourself with your questions". Barta stop shining his shoes and manage him.

I don't bother reading these any more because frankly they make my eyes bleed. Doing press conferences is a requirement of the job that KF s u c k s badly at. I honestly don't know what the point of having one win or lose. They are the same as they were 10 years ago. Just change the name of the players. But I love reading Frans PCS..He answers the questions and is very insightful. I would love a FB version of Fran.

This is where you are dead wrong. 95% of coaches who have press conferences are different than KF. There's a few coaches out there who handle them just as badly as Kirk does, but you are totally inaccurate when you make it sound like every coach is this stubborn with his answers. He literally acts like a 4 year old who is trying to explain to his parents why he bit his little brother. "I don't know. You guys are the experts I guess. You tell me. I guess I'll try not to do it next week."

That is why I havent really read these or listened to them in several years. No attempt to give info or seem to look for ways to improve. It is like KF is just rolling some old pirate bones out on a treasure map and hoping to find gold.

The only reason I read this thread is to read all of the HN poster comments, some of which are great.

And I havent watched KF's TV show since about 2007 because KF and dolph are borrrrrriiinnnnng.

Give me the old days when Evy, Nagle, Fry would show most of the plays and really comment on what the heck was going on.

Reporter: you seem to have alot of responses that include the statement: "I don't know." Sports are certainly unpredicable and we don't expect for you definetively know the outcome beforehand. What are your thoughts though on whether or not you were aware that you were involved in coaching a football game this past Saturday?
K.F.: not sure, i'll have to wait till season's end and see if i spent any time this year as a football coach. Might have to work on some things if that's the case.

I read that and it sounds like he's saying "I have no idea what the hell I'm doing". But he doesn't believe that, so really he is saying "I'm not telling you guys how I feel about anything and this is a waste of my time". I don't know why I bother to read, I know it's just going to irritate me.

Here is the reality...KF feels he doesn't owe the lay fan anything in the way of explanation, and he despises having to sit and answer questions from people who he feels don't know what goes into putting a college program together. It's the Bill Belichek attitude. He feels he's above it all and most of what he does is over people's heads anyway.

Earth to KF, most of us have a better education than you, have followed the game for years, so if you EXPLAIN it to us, guess what, I'll try to follow you through the organic chemistry class you call football.

I have learned one thing though, I now know what a complete butt kicking looks like on the college football gridiron thanks to you. Nice work at Minnesota last week. I can now scratch *** kicking of my list of things I need to learn.

See, I'm doing some good things, and I've worked hard.

People like to bring up Belichek... but Ferentz has nothing in common when it comes to coaching intelligence. The only thing Ferentz does like Belichek is act like a ****** in pressers.

I don't even know why I read what Ferentz says in these things.

It's a big pile of steaming Bull...

Or if I am taking what he says seriously... he has no clue, its all random, he can't control any elements of his team in any way.

If we are really supposed to take what he is saying as honest in anyway then he is preaching incompetence.

So then he needs to get out if he doesn't have a clue.

^^^^^^^^^^If I didn't know any better I would say it was a Mike Tomlin presser.

Q: When will the megasite be up.

A: The megasite will be up when the megasite is up.

He's coming off kind of dicky to me. Really alienating even loyal fans.

Yep. He's either being petulant or is clueless on how to fix things. Either way, it's getting worse.

I'll always have some respect for KF, but it's upsetting how he is handling things. He is ruining his legacy by being a stubborn child.
