The program is no longer improving....

In today's college football world, you are either growing/improving or you're regressing. Unfortunately our program is not improving. It certainly is in regards to facilities and revenue, but that, frankly, is a testament to the fans and the good fortune we have to be in the B1G....but as far as the product on the field, we are regressing and have been since the ill-fated fake punt against Wisconsin.

Before that fake punt, we were the second best program in the B1G and had been for 8 years...behind only OSU. Michigan had lost its way and MSU and Wisconsin were still behind us. But since that time, we've been passed by Wisconsin and MSU and Minnesota is now drawing even with us. And with Nebraska joining the conference, we're now behind them as well.

We were down before in 06 and 07, but those didn't feel like it feels now. It feels like we're the old lady in the slow lane getting passed by everyone in the fast lane. It's not age or longevity....its stubbornness. Bill Snyder is 127 years old and has been at KSU forever, but he knows how to change with the times and how not to fit a square peg into a round hole. KF refuses to understand this and it will be his downfall.

In the end, we're regressing as a program. Part of me just wants the whole thing to crash so we can completely reboot things...but the fan in me hopes that KF can just call it a career after we finish 6-6 this year and we can get some new blood in when there's still talent on the roster...

You think Brian is ready to take over already?

We've regressed. We've replaced a lot of very good assistant coaches with a lot of average ones, since KF was hired.

I'm done with the "Iowa Man" stuff. It's what's gotten Michigan in trouble....needing to have a "Michigan Man" at the helm.

I'd be all for taking a chance on a guy who was like Leach/Briles/Malzahn/Snyder....guys who learned their craft in high school, small colleges and then as coordinators and are pioneers/innovators who are ready to run their own program.

The Stoops who is at Kentucky is doing a real nice job there, I wouldn't mind going after him.

Agree 100%. The top programs are always hiring top young talent even knowing they will lose them at some point. KF only hires yes men who are retreads who no other team wants or have a tie to the program. Need a head coach who isn't afraid of his own shadow and hires the top young minds that can recruit.

Good post by the OP. Thank you.

Agreed.....program is stale. Not using talent we have, not developing talent enough to be even competitive, on and on.

Starts at the top. Ends at the top.

Nothing personal against KF. Nothing at all. But in most relationships, things get stale. Time to move on.

KF's time to move on is now.

The fake punt vs Wiscy was the precise moment my enthusiasm for Iowa football was deflated. It was the moment I'd had enough of Ferentz. Next man in.

We have had these conversations throught out his tenure at Iowa, but Kirk is still here. Kirk is not voing anywhere until Kirk says so.

10000% agree.

"Had my epiphany"
"Scales removed from my eyes"
"The King has no clothes"
"My 'ahhhhh' moment"
"I get it"

Label it how you want. That was my "defining moment."

I still go back to sitting on the ball in the 'Shoe in '09. He blew it. Outside the bounce back with Stanzi in the Orange Bowl, it's been an extremely dispiriting ride since then. And we're going on half a decade of disappointment now.

That 2010 season should have sealed the deal in everyone's mind the man was not a good coach.

To squander that amount of upperclassmen talent was Ron Zook esque.

Good point. I was at that game too. And I was hot...all the while OSU fans all around me chuckling we sat on it with the momentum and a timeout left with only 40 yards to go to get within FG territory.

That game/series showcased KF's true conservative nature.

The Wisky fake punt exposed KF's lack of mastering the basics of a football game, which continue to this day.

And yes, 2010 demonstrated KF had lost the team....as did 2006 and 2007.

Our overall record since that fake punt debacle in 2010 is 27-25 and 15-18 in the B1G. That's regression folks...no two ways about it. There is no other 4 year period in the Ferentz Era that we have had fewer than the 15 B1G victories we've had from the Wisky loss in 2010 to now.

could not agree more. That game should have been in the bag, and frankly we have sucked since then.

in addition to not improving, they are not FUN to watch. In the end it's a game and should be at least entertaining. If you were totally outmanned you are going to get drilled no matter what you do. Iowa is NOT outmanned, except maybe by ohio state, any even then not by as much as some think. Watching iowa football is more like going to the dentist, rather than being entertaining. I suppose a lot of fans feel that way about their teams, but all i know is that when i don't mind going to work on a saturday instead of watching an iowa game( where i used to have season tickets for 25 years), it's time for a change in leadership.
