How do we keep both QBs?

I had a bad feeling about Jake once I heard that he had to skip some practice or film session to study last year. Hey Jake, you aren't here on an academic scholarship!

I would guess he doesn't take as full a course load during the season. Still, it isn't the first time academics has gotten in the way of a player. Allegedly, players are students "first".

How hard does he have to study the Iowa playbook? WRs, etc., probably, but our playbook, from a QBs perspective, probably isn't War & Peace.

I can't imagine anyone wanting to start med school and still play FBS football all in the same year.

Jake is a smart guy. He was academic all-district which means he has a GPA of at least 3.30 . I am confident he has a plan to finish out his undergrad and football career at Iowa.

Where or if he goes to med school will be decided after his football career is done.

I am just curious. As a chem Engineering major, did you find organic chemistry hard? I have heard the horror stories about organic chemistry being so hard but I have known some ChemE majors who sailed through with no problem. Just curious.

If Jake is still pre-med then he did well in those classes.

Organic chemistry is hard but for me it was like for many people just the tremendous amount of info to remember. Plus I liked chemistry and understood it.

But Organic Chem starts with a basic rule that carbon forms 4 chemical bonds, org chem has a very strict naming convention and set of certain major reactive groups like the carboxcylic acid group. If you can understand the naming conventions, the reactive groups and their names, and the basic chemistry of what reacts with what then it is understandable.

If either transfers it would be CJB. If it looks toward the end of this year that JR is still the starter even though CJ played well then I wouldnt blame a guy like CJ, who knows he has talent, to go to a school that needs a QB.

Dont know if either JR or CJ has gone to QB schools in the summer but CJ's grampa could probably have him get a good evaluation.

Most eyeballs seem to indicate that CJ has decent wheels, a great arm, his accuracy is way up this year, his decision making looked good at Pitt. What is not to like. I bet there are some B1G schools who wish they had him.

I dont see JR transferring with only one year left or even less to get his degree. Not sure what kind of doctor he wants to be but most med schools would see him as an absolute great student/leader/and they say he is a nice person.

JR in his 4th year at Iowa could be taking some elective courses now during the fall semester and maybe even a couple pass/fail.

By the way. I looked up CJB's major and academic info. Based on his high school honors, he sounds pretty smart too.

CJB Personal - -*Born 11/16/93 . . . leisure studies-recreation and sport business major . . . member of National Honor Society . . . member of high school Honor Roll and Mu Alpha Theta (Math Honors Scholar) .*

I could be mistaken, but I think you are wrong.

First of all, he has to be a full-time student, whatever that is. I think it is 12 hours. In all likelihood he is taking at least 15 hours. So what we are really talking about, in this instance, is whether he is taking 15 hours or one class more than that. That is, if we are even discussing this.

He isn't in med school now, he wants to go to med. school. He can take whatever he wants and then apply once he graduates and takes the MCATS. Naturally, the more life sciences classes he takes, the better his chances of getting into med school, I would think. So that typically would speak to a tougher academic schedule.

Given that he is already at Iowa, and a football player, I have to wonder if there isn't possibly some sort of "gentleman's agreement" in place to make sure, if he holds his end up academically, that he makes it into Iowa's med school. It really makes Iowa look good in a lot of ways if he does, as long as Jake holds up his end academically while he is an undergrad.

What I meant was that he probably isn't taking 18 hours and trying to finish early, or taking the most difficult classes in fall semester if he can hold off until spring semester. And I wouldn't be surprised if he takes certain lab-type or other time-consuming classes in spring.

his judgment. I do not trust.

Yes, very bad track record of choosing the best qb. But the most disturbing part are the people who think we should play an inferior player to keep him from going somewhere else?

Even though Ferentz apparently doesn't like his hair or something...it's apparent that this season Beathard did more in one half then Jake did in 3 and a half games. From all accounts Jake is a good guy who wants to be a doctor. As others have said he'll likely stay. If he doesn't it really doesn't matter. UNI and Ball State played with us and could have easily won. ISU beat us. Those 3 weeks was a low point for Iowa football and I won't be upset if I never see that qb again.

True, but he also knows where his future is at and it isn't in pro football.

Well good for him, doesn't mean we need to finance it. I see someone posted that CJB is a leisure studies major, that's doing it right. If I remember correctly Brad Banks was the same, Shonne Greene had a similar major, Tim Dwight was Undeclared as a Senior. 70,000 people don't turn out to watch Jake take his organic chem quiz.

Do we know how Jake did in Organic Chemistry? My understanding is that the vast majority of aspiring doctors who take that at Iowa quickly find out that they are not as smart as the Indian and Chinese students on campus. I mean, it would totally stink if Jake got a D+ in that class and still thinks he's going to a medical school located within the borders of the United States, and continues to waste his time studying, to the detriment of the football team.
Come on counselor, this is a little over the top even for you. JR could run circles around you intellectually, and you know it.

It was publicized that practices were adjusted to fit Jake's class load, not that he skipped practices.

Jake does; don't know about CJ.

IMO, with the talent both Iowa QBs possess, one will transfer... some other school will convince one to transfer.

Does Iowa need to keep both QBs?

Can we have a 1A QB and a 1B QB? Would that satisfy both QBs?
Alternate QBs per half? Per offensive series?
The first half QB may always play with the first string. The second half QB may always play with players lower on the depth chart.
Run the score up so both QBs routinely get into the game? Could develop depth as others get to play.

This is so EASY -Let Greg Davis run his offense.....and Not KF
