Ex-Hawkeye Ricky Davis makes D-League roster | TheGazette

From article:

Now he’s back in the D-League. He has made the opening-day roster of the Erie BayHawks at age 34. Erie opens the season tonight at home against the Canton Charge.

Another former Hawkeye is back in the D-League. Doug Thomas, who played for Steve Alford’s Hawkeyes in the 2004-05 and 2005-06 season, has made the roster of the Bakersfield Jam.

At 34, I'm surprised someone in the D-League signed Davis. I mean, I'm sure he can still play ball, but I would think they would want to use the roster spot on someone younger who might have a chance at actually making and sticking to a NBA roster for a sustained period.

Nothing against Ricky .. .. Just my 2¢ .. ..

GO HAWKS!!!

I agree, and I cannot believe Ricky would be willing to play in the D-League. He has made over $42 million in his NBA career, I find it odd he would play for a D-League salary at his age.

D league teams have 4, maybe 5 prospects, and then a bunch of guys to fill out the roster so the prospects can play and develop.

ricky is roster fodder

thomas may yet be useful for an nba team, but he's getting old by professional athlete standards

42 million is nothing for a NBA player to blow-through. Isn't Allen Iverson broke?

No one ever associated Ricky with common sense or intelligence. I saw him play in high school - million dollar talent, ten cent head.

Remember the time he (Ricky) missed a shot on purpose to get the rebound himself to secure a triple double? Oh, Ricky...

I hope he is playing cause he loves the game, not because he needs the money. that would be pathetic.

The amount of cash nba players blow through is astounding. Antoine walker blew through 140 million in earnings.

Professional athletes in general. Many stories of former, millionaire NFLers without a penny left to show for their efforts.
