the keys to a successful Iowa sports network

The failure of the BTN to adequately cover Hawkeye sports has been noted a few times on this forum. The best solution would be to start an Iowa Sports Network. With the size of the fan base (double ISU's) the demand is out there. I would like to go over a few ideas that would help make it successful.

First off make it available to as many viewers ad possible. It needs to be on in this region with at least dish, dtv, and mediacom. This may involve partnering with a larger sports network, I'm not sure on that one. I see some of the channels on the dish 250 lineup, you can't tell me the Iowa channel would get less viewers.

Next programming, they got to as much as they can. As far as live football games go I don't think they could get that, however some sort of game day show might be doable. Covering news about the team and such. This would of course carry over into residual Iowa sports news into all sports.

With basketball there were several games not on TV that they could pick up. Women's games also could be on there. Once again game day coverage pre and post would be included.

Finally classic games, and historical features would be one of the best parts of this at least for me. Almost every day I hit that info button on the BTN classics with disappointment but not any more. Not the same 3 games over and over again either.

I hope we can get more people behind this to help make it happen. For better sports news and more sports coverage.

"Classic" games MUST include blow-out losses from the 1960s-1970s, the 0-57 drubbing in Lincoln in 1980 and (of course) the 1982 Ron Hawley-levels-a goalpost-in-East-Lansing-and-gets-a-high-five-from-the-MSU-receiver game.

There must also be "IOWA Day on the Iowa Network" every Sunday. Sounds like overkill, but the marketing possibilities abound.

Now all we need is on-air talent. I nominate OK4P and ColoradoHawkeye as the in-studio personnel. WAY better than Mike Hall on BTN. Then again, treychase or ThunderHawk would be better than Mike Hall.

How about Ed Podolak's record game against Northwestern every year on the week of that game. Or the 94 game where Matt Sherman threw all over the NW defense every way imaginable. I was at that game! Let's make it happen I would love to see blow out games.

The network would also have to carry the sandlot games that featured ColoradoHawkeye and myself back in 1983 at some small field that had "H" goalposts. Classic dialogue ensued between Colo and "Beast". It belongs in the "Local Vault" for that year.

Due to sponsorships reasons, it is known as the Iowa Corn/Hyvee Champions Network, featuring Iowa Athletics from Mediacom.

They would not necessary have to move into the state. Let's say this is Midwest regional, people see it and hiw awesome the university is, more people become fans. This could be a great promotional tool.
