Uthoff Rust

I should reiterate. Not all players improve much after they graduate high school but there is definitely improvement, just not as much when compared to everyone else.

You really shouldn't reiterate. Everyone in the world knows that players improve after they graduate high school.

Greg Helmers

uh oh

I remember seeing him at 99 or 100 on a top 100 list in '94 -- it was athlon, or street and smith, or lindy...can't remember, but it was a "credible" national season preview (I was reading it in Columbia SC).

the notation was that he was "further along at this stage than three NBA picks from Iowa...will be a good one in a few years." the assumption was that since he was better than earl or jepsen as a hs senior, and since davis could develop post men, he was going to be a serious player.

oy.

Thats what makes Uthoff a dangerous player. He might lull you into thinking that he has so much rust to shake. I like to think he's almost like a joker. He'll do great!.

The Joker knows, Atomic.....

It is what it is. Just enjoy and appreciate what ever the kid brings to the table. Oh and just incase there is a wise guy out there I will just say it myself. "That depends on what the definition of is, is?" Famous Presidential quotes for two hundred points, Jack. :)

I hope the clowns in Washington (not Ames) can come to an agreement on Tuesday so that I can get my regular pay for going to work everyday. If I am essential personnel then why don't I get an essential pay check like those idiots in the House and Senate. :(

Because "essentially" you are just a pawn in their game for party power......those who control the money, control the power......why we give them this power over us is beyond me, as there isn't a bigger collection of scum suckers, and criminas, than those who walk the halls of Washington D.C.

I feel for ya BigD. /end rant

Easiest 200 points I would ever make, BigD.....

The Mess in Congress is beyond intelligent discussion.....

He started getting bad before he left high school. I remember his rankings slipping his Senior year in high school.

I find it amusing when people say every player improves as they get older and get to college. Angle couldn't even find the floor when Lickliter was at Iowa...

So you think JR Angle as a senior in highschool would beat JR Angle as a senior in college?

The only way that is possible would be due to injuries.

Its not that he didn't improve, its that he improve very marginally and was never a good player to begin with. Same with Helmers.

Probably not but it was weird watching him regress in high school. He committed to Iowa as a sophomore, was a 4 star (top 100) recruit as a junior, and played on most of the elite teams. His senior year the praise in the scouting reports dropped along with all his rankings. By his senior year (a 5th year senior) at Iowa he was sitting at the end of the bench, only getting mop up duties in 5 games on a TL led team.

jr peaked the summer after his sophomore year in hs

top 50

then top 100

then the end of the lick bench

utoff will have some rust. inevitable. also gone by the start of conference play.

the poll that needs to happen: when will utoff regularly be on the floor at the end of close games?

My guess: yes...to shake hands, just like everybody else. I would put money on it.
