Learn the game...

I was talking to our JV football coach today. He was telling me his RB has an IQ of about 76 and cant remember any of the plays. He asks questions in practice like "Do I run forward on this play?"
I asked "Why dont you just have the QB tell him where to run in the huddle?" He said "The QB isnt much smarter."
I dont think the intricacies of the names bubble screen and tunnel screen would matter much. And I doubt things they learned in youth football are remembered.

76 might be generous if the guy didn't know whether to run forward or backward. :D

On a serious note, what does everyone think the primary barriers are to people learning the game?

Trying to steer this in a more productive direction.

Sure they will. But any coach (which many here and on other similar sites seem to consider themselves to be) who doesn't know the difference won't get very far. Which is the primary point of the OP.

The primary point of the OP was that everyone but the OP is a moron. Hence the pile-on, sarcasm and general disdain witnessed toward the OP.

It is clear to the most casual observer that someone who is not commited to learning the the game and explaining it the right way is the kind of person who has low standards for himself and all around him. This is the kind of person who moves us down the road to the wusification of America. They also refuse to spank their kids when the act up. They wear pink shirts alot to.

Before thinking you know anything. I have read multiple people talking about the bubble screen and how well it looked with Powell. Let's start there it was a tunnel otherwise known as a jailbreak screen. A bubble goes toward the sideline and a tunnel goes in toward the linemen. Stick to what you know. Football is a very intricate game and the lack of knowledge by people is what has led to bad habits from poor youth coaching.

this is a symptom of a bigger problem. People that think they know football or any sport but really don't are coaching their kids youth teams and teaching kids bad habits like poor tackling. Sports are more intricate than most realize. Really try to learn the game if you want to talk or critique it.

end soap box.

you are asking a whole lot for very many on this message board. a whole lot. time to bring your expectations down to reality! ;)

This just in: most youth league football coaches will not be moving on to the NFL. In other news, many McDonald's burger flippers won't become head chefs at five star restaurants. Film at eleven.

I blame - first and foremost - the public school system and - as a close second - all the hormones and such they put into our dairy products nowadays.

I thought each individual team had their own terminology for plays? Otherwise they would have to go up to the line and yell BUBBLE SCREEN ON 3 DOWN SET HUT HUT HIKE!

This is all my fault and I feel really terrible for letting the entire fan base down. Here we are five games into the season and I still have no real mastery of the team playbook. I tend to blame this on my utter lack of football experience past a few weeks of middle school league. Which was an unmitigated disaster, I might add. But I understand it is “the next man in” around here, and there is no real excuse for me showing up so unprepared. Should some unforeseen cataclysm happen to the more knowledgeable fans, I might be asked to step up my game and make a critical contribution.

You disgust me.

You disgust me.

Sorry, I must also add that I just showed up on the board once again after nearly a year hiatus. You know, the team was at least competitive again and talk on the fan board seemed to be coming out of a multi-year meltdown mode. I figured I could just drop into things like I had never been gone. Oh foolish me.

I played "Flanker" in high school. Think it just means I was on the side of the TE, but not sure if that's the official definition.

Well don't you think you should probably figure that out before you post on here again? Learn the game!

Enough talk! Shouldn't you be learning the game?!?
