Saturday's High Temp Reaching Dangerous Levels

Today's a scorcher but they're now saying 89 for Saturday. It's a good thing. Still plenty hot on the field though, and it will be a factor.

they should hover a helecopter over the field to cool it. that ought to be real safe, with a stadium full of people.

If you had a chance to watch the Nirth Carolina/south Carolina game last night, you got a good look at his the heat will affect the players. And they were playing at night, with no sun; just hot as heyell! Imagine what'll be like with the sun beating down. Ooffda!

No that would not be safe if a helicopter hovers in the same spot for too long tge draft can make it unstable. Dealing with the 89 degree day would be better. Plus it is not a good idea to ask a new qb to have to deal with circular wind patterns.

not sure if you thought he was serious.....

I hoenstly wonder what the body average body temperature is of a player at the end of a game in that heat, who's busting his butt off in the heat, but has the luxury of the fans/cooling stations on the sideline and any breeze that may be there vs. the fans who are literally piled on top of eachother with no space to move in the bleachers.

Not saying playing sports in that heat is easy, especially in pads, but I remember playing sports in the fall in that heat and for whatever reason it always took alot more out of me to sit through a game as a fan then being on the field. I'm sure it had to do with the dehydration factor and the alcohol consumption as a fan.

Also he would occasionally need to leave to refuel. Which means sometimes he would be there and sometimes he would not, adding an element of inconsistency which could be even worse for a young QB. However, we could have a second helicopter on standby, and simply run Weisman during the intervening play. Doubles your costs, but that shouldn't matter, you do what's necessary for player health.

This could work well.

Nope I am against the helicopter idea completely. The university has already had too many problems already with aircraft too close to the stadium they don't need more. Several dozen industrial size fans could do that much more safely, and at a lower cost.

Come on man... 2 helicopters!!! That's just crazy talk.

I personally dont think heat bothers 20 year olds. The problem is the fans. If heat bothers you then stay home. Play the game.

I did a search and the only uses of helicopters at football games that I could find was that the nsa uses them to spy at games and the Redskins once used them to dry the field. Helicopters as a stadium cooling method is untested. I suspect it would not be good. Maybe test it with the stadium empty sometime. Don't us them at the game.

I have seen photographic evidence that copters were used to dry rose bowl field prior to 82 game against WA.
