Passed him By

maybe it indicates he is a front runner. it's ez to support your team when things are good. but to dump on them when things are down? that's when you are really supposed to pull for them. please supply me with all the negative posts by pasture-boy during the 4 top-ten finishing seasons, then we'll talk.
I seem to recall you disappearing from here for most of the season last year. Or were you just at a loss for words?

Let it be noted that the person talking about putting OOTH out to pasture was OOTH. The thought had not crossed my mind and the post he responded to was not aimed at him.

I'd wager FreedCommanche has been banned four or five times over the last 6 years on this and other boards..and it's still the same old song and dance, and it gets old.

Ok, let's wager. How much would you like to wager, Jon?

And if you read all my posts and responses, especially lately, you'll find that I have actually been favorable to kf in some of them. For example, I said I think he has a avg win/loss season of 7-5 over his tenure at Iowa. That's not bad. I also said he's only had one losing season since his first couple years.

Dude, move to Portland, wear lots of corduroy and complain about his salary.

<<YES, kf did crush my dream concerning hawkeye football>>

<<That is the reason I joined this board to hopefully find like minded people that were as mad as I was about the current sad state of Iowa football>>

Seriously? Seriously?

To imply that I would ever consider moving to any place that stinks of socialism confirms you don't read all my posts.

Oh, and did you see where I stuck up for kf's salary with that one guy was ragging on him? Didn't think so.

A number of people have taken hiatuses from the board when they get sick of all the negativity during the bad years.

Spot on. That was a beauty.

It was. I don't recall ever seeing Iowa (under Ferentz) that aggressive on both sides of the ball.

I have a theory that Iowa's aggressiveness that day was a direct result of the criticism levied at Ferentz after the Wisconsin game the week prior, but that's another discussion.

Fair enough. It's a day later...I can move on ;) Football season is coming.

I wouldn't say the game has passed him by. I would question his commitment in relation to what he was as a young coach. Like any demanding job, that commands ridiculous hours, it becomes exponentially more difficult as age creeps up on you. At some point you have to re-dedicate yourself or delegate more responsibilities to younger men. Is KF doing that with the staff changes? Maybe. I think bringing Brian on board is a big deal for KF in that he feels he has someone with his best interests in mind, to help pick up some of those responsibilities. I know that I am younger than KF and I wouldn't look forward to the kind of commitment his job entails.

I did see that. But the "I came here because of the state of the program" is something straight off the Pentacrest every October of every even-numbered year since about 1900.

There is room for all opinion here. There will be criticisms here this year. I've been critical of Kirk in the past. Probly the most ticked I was at him was leaving ARob in 4Q 2010 v MSU. Season fell apart after that.

You seemed really annoyed when the coaching staff burned Drew Ott's redshirt last year!!!

I got the pro kf guys completely figured out. That compilation I put together is what they always lean on when any criticism comes their hero's way. And, hey, overall kf does have a decent overall record at Iowa. I think it's an avg season of 7-5. Not bad.

I also got the anti kf guys, like myself, figured out. We don't buy the whole premise of the pro kf crowd. That premise is this: Iowa is not tOSU and that means we'll never get the good players year in and year out. Because of this, just expect a little above mediocrity like 7-5.

My bold:With an attitude like that, K-State and Oregon would still stink. They <their fans> didn't buy the premise that most Iowa fans currently do.

It's just another deflection (defense of KF) from the base...

So in answer to my question: No one really thinks that the game has passed him by. People are upset with recent results and some feel he was never a very good coach. But there isn't a bunch of "can't miss new stuff" in CFB that he's either unaware of, doesn't understand or refuses to adopt.
Glad you, with your infinite wisdom, decided to speak for everyone else.

I'll give you some credit here because you are right. It's rare in the coaching community for coaches to say anything negative about their colleagues. I'll give you that. However the very fact Kirk was able to bring in and keep some great coaches on his staff for a long period of time says a lot about the desire other coaches have to work with/for him. Now someone like Bill Parcells knows way more about football than virtually 99% of the planet. He's not a guy known for mincing words or being polite just to be polite. He goes out of his way to mention Ferentz's coaching ability.

Look, the only thing that is frustrating is when people are trying to suggest Ferentz isn't, and hasn't ever been a good head coach. That's just plain ludicrous. Refusing to give him any credit for the success he's brought to Iowa is delusional. That just takes away any credibility that you might have had.

Kirk Ferentz deserves criticism right now for a lot of things. He's made mistakes. The program isn't in a good place and he's got a lot of pressure on him right now. I don't think anyone is arguing that. Hawk fans want to see results, and see them soon. However, some things that are said on here just don't add up. I think that's why you see so many people come to his defense. Not because he doesn't deserve criticism, but because that criticism should at least be comprised of rational thoughts.
OK, why do you love KF? <P> Do you think KOK loved to coach under KF with KOK's offensive background? What he was forced to call? All the scapegoating he was subjected to at Iowa?<P> Give one example of a coach that spoke ill will about another coach (that wasn't going to jail). Heck, I can't remember any coach who spoke ill will about the Zooker, a former Illinois football coach. <P> DP5555, I fear some of your logical arguments are straw men arguments.
