I understand optimism. I'm an optimistic guy. Most of the posters on here know that. I'm optimistic about the chances Ferentz has to turn things around when a ton of people on here aren't. The difference is Ferentz has turned things around at Iowa before. He has brought them to big time bowl games, and he has won some of them. He's proven that he's capable of it, and that the Iowa program is capable of it.
Cyclone fans and the jihadic wing of Cyclone nation over on Cyclone Fanatic are absolutely delusional. You'd make yourself look a whole lot better if you'd just admit that. No factual or historical reference points to any sort of logical reason why the football program might be turning a corner. Not what Rhoads had done, not recruiting, and not some big ugly scoreboard. I seriously think the entire Cyclone fanbase keeps listening to that post game pep talk by Rhoads and feels like everything is still on the up and up... when in reality there's not really any legitimate reason to believe that.
It's really fascinating. Rhodes has also made the entire fanbase forget that McCarney ever had success there, if you talk to any Clone fan you will get the impression that the Gene Chizik era lasted a decade, rather than two years, and that Rhodes has taken the program to heights they have never seen, when in reality they were just as good or better for most of the previous decade under McCarney.
