Well...sniff sniff...

If only pre-season rankings did anything to help on the court........

The only rankings that matter are the end of season rankings and making the NCAA tournament.

I don't see Iowa anywhere in those.

When I said "NBA people" I meant GM's, insiders, owners, etc. People who would be extending an offer to Hoiberg to coach their franchise. Those NBA people have a lot of respect for Hoiberg.

Iowa beat ISU so if we were irrelevant then ISU was something less than irrelevant. The Big 12 showed their strength and depth in the NCAA Tournament...not much there and the best players in a weak conference will be gone.

Baylor lost to the college of charleston, so they basically didn't even exist, and they beat iowa. Maybe one game doesn't mean a lot in a 30+ game schedule.

Uncle, I also looked at this list and I can't find Iowa State anywhere in USA Today's very early look at the Top 25 for 2013-2014. Can you help me here? My 59-year-old body has the eyes of an 80-year-old and perhaps I just am not observing our friends from the other side of the state.

Forecasting the NCAA basketball top 25 in 2013-14

You're 59 years old and you haven't realized at this point that pre-season rankings don't mean dick? How long have you watched sports.

USC last year in football sure wishes that pre-season rankings meant something.

BS. Most fans in Iowa know who "The Mayor" is. That is laughable to think someone in NYC, Atlanta, Boston, or any other NBA market would connect "The Mayor" with Fred Hoiberg.

This. Very few outside of Iowa know who the "Mayor" was.

Look, I like Hoiberg, even did when he was a player. Furthermore, I actually don't have a disdain for ISU (I save that for nebby), save for a few ISU trolls. But good lord, no one outside of ISU fans or Iowa native have a clue who Fred was...C'mon ISU

...but...your in "our" heads....

still here?

carry on.

Hoiberg, good dude, good coach - No one outside of Iowa or ISU fan really know him more that, say, Reggie Evan is known....

clueless troll. You'll be gone soon enough.

And as long as Fred Hoiberg is in Ames, ISU will be a nationally recognized program. NBA people know Hoiberg and want them as their coach, he's a legend in the state of Iowa, he's taken his teams to the NCAA tournament.

In terms of relevancy, Hoiberg is most definitely more relevant than the Iowa coach. I don't think most fans outside the general vicinity of Iowa know who Fran is. That isn't the case with Hoiberg.

Yeah, Freds a HUGE legend..when I was a kid I couldn't get my hands on his jersey it was so hot. Nobody even knows who he is from IOWA besides people in the ames area.

I'll take five or 63..whatever. Im pumped for next year either way because we're gonna be tough. I am a twolves fan and I still don't know who fred is or care..

Exactly. Activevagger's claim that Fred is super relevant outside of Iowa is hilarious. I'll give him that Fred is more relevant outside of Iowa than Fran. It's hard to argue against that. But he's hardly a household name. Go to New York or California and more people have likely heard of Jon Lickliter than Hoiberg.

You're just a big turd sammich sometimes.

How can you honestly argue that Iowa is more relevant than ISU right now? The only justification I have seen is preseason polls that no one outside of this board cares about. Maybe in 4 months we will be more relevant but right now its just absurd

I agree with you that right now there's no way Iowa can claim to be more relevant than ISU. However, I think you're kidding yourself if you think people don't care about preseason polls. People obsess over the preseason polls for basketball and football even though they're put out absurdly early.

All I stated was you're a turd sometimes. Turd on.

You and the rest of the turd gang obviously haven't the first clue
about critical or logical thinking.... let me help you with that.

Are preseason polls any guarantee of success? Of course not.

But let's get past that bit of inch deep thinking and understand
that preseason polls, like stock market predictions, are forward
looking assessments offered by people who could be considered
experts in the field.

Iowa basketball is obviously relevant to those people at this time
based on any number factors that are generally considered to be
indications of future performance. Nothing more... nothing less.

Most of those people don't consider ISU relevant to the process
based on those same factors.

Be serious... stop living in the past... which of these two programs
have the pieces in place to have a stellar year next year? Any answer
other than Iowa is ridiculous.

And the notion that the basketball world outside of Iowa doesn't know
of Fran and his exceptional record of success everywhere he's gone is just
evidence of crack being smoked. Put the pipe down and step away.
