Well...sniff sniff...

There's a reason schools have Fred in their coaching searches and not Fran.

Because Fran is in his mid 50's.

You would think by year four of a rebuilding project a coach wouldn't have so many unknowns, by year four you should be getting preseason rankings if your rebuilding project is going as expected.

Just because Fred's name is leaked/linked with every coaching search doesn't mean he's actually a serious candidate or has the inside track. Fran may get lots of interest and kills it instantaneously. Who really knows what happens with all of this "stuff."

You could say that but don't you think Fred would kill the Minnesota job if he'd been given the chance? You would hear rumors about them as a candidate whether they kill it right away or not.

You're right, being ranked 7 months before the season is the true sign of relevancy.

Obviously, to aruge otherwise would just be silly. I think Kentucky, Michigan, Michigan St, Florida, Georgetown, Duke and Louisville are all pretty relevent teams and I see them in these rankings too. Would you suggest this is actually a list of non-relevent teams?

The Big 12 deserved 5 bids this year and if Baylor hadn't crapped their pants, might have had 6. The Big 12 was down this year, yes, but that doesn't mean they didn't have 5 deserving NCAA tournament teams. You can reflect the weakness of the conference in the seeding, which was the case this year having OU and ISU as 10 seeds. The problem with the Big 12 is that they have so many one and dones.

I am hoping for the best, but don't group Clemmons and Ingram in a group with Gessell, Woodbury, Matt Thomas, Monte Morris, Sherron Dorsey-Walker, Naz Long and Kerwin Okoro. The fact that we have five young guys that other (multiple) BCS schools wanted coming in to play gives us a much better chance of succeeding than the talent Iowa has in their underclassmen.

Ingram and Clemmons only had offers from directional schools.

Naz had offers from Creighton, Miami (FL) and Mizzou.
Okoro had offers from Pitt, Seton Hall, Rutgers, Arizona, St. John's.
SDW had offers from Baylor, Boston College, Florida St., Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Temple, Virginia Tech.
Thomas had offers from Boston College, Colorado St., Creighton, Marquette, Minnesota, Nebraska, UNI, Northwestern, Virginia, Wisconsin.
Morris had fewer offers but Arizona St., Cinci, GTech, Providence, and USC. He had a conditional offer from Michigan with another guy from the state on first to commit gets the spot. He beat that guy and the #10 prospect in the country (that signed with Kentucky) out for Michigan Mr. Basketball.

I was saying we had high hopes for the incoming players as do you...not making comparisons related to individual talent. This will sort itself out and there will be stats/data to clarify the better players, seasons, etc.

We could argue all day about the number of bids the Big 12 deserved. It won't prove anything or change anything so we'll agree to disagree...if that's okay.

To argue period would be silly, the Fran vs. Fred argument will not be settled between ISU and Iowa fans for a couple more years at least.

You give both fan bases way too much credit. This will never be settled IMO. We could go to a moderator or something but otherwise...

No response to this post...wanted to give Fred kudos for self reporting the (AAU) basketball violation per the Register today. I'm being serious.

Well, ISU and Oklahoma were the bottom two teams and I think all would agree that they did enough to get in the tournament. I just don't see what team you would think was good enough to be in and replace them considering ISU was rated #39 and OU #40 by the committee for teams in the tournament. A 10 seed is not even near the bubble. But we can agree to disagree, just had to get that out there.

Take a wild guess why.....

1. He is one of the best shooters in history and guards take notice, so his recruitment of guards will be fanatastic as long as he can keep up the success he has had thus far.

2. The success he's had thus far.

3. The NBA style offense which will prepare players for the next level.

4. In his first two years he sent two players to the NBA, one of which had no chance until his senior year under Fred and the other a troubled transfer who was a one and done. He may send his third in three years this year.

5. The excitement from fans and the media based on the style of offense he plays.

There's a good start.

LOL so far it's produced 2 players who have combined to average 2.2 ppg and at least 2.5 women knocked up per year (number could be higher not sure how many kids DG has). It's a real NBA sucess story.

He's 2 for 2 what is Fran?

Fran is loyal and committed to the Hawkeyes and raising his family in Iowa City, and other schools realize this......

There is a reason they think they can lure Fred away.....

That's all.....

I'm through with the Clone talk.....
