Anyone still doubt McGearys an future NBA player?

Well he costing his team big time right now not being worth a crap at the FT line...and MICH inability to make FT's might very well end up costing them this game.

Not making FTS always hurts but he has a double double w 6 assists...I wouldn't say he's costing his team. Bugs rarely shoot FTS well.

Agree 100%...buts he's a frosh and I don't think anyone really should compare McGary and the most physically dominate player inbasketball history.

That's not my point. I'm saying the most physically dominant player in basketball history could be a lousy FT shooter...because he was the most dominant player in basketball history. McGary isn't anywhere near that level. He has to get better than 40% before he heads for the NBA IMO. Of course he's older than Marble so I doubt he's around after next year.

I just posted this in another thread, but McGary will be turning 21 before the NBA Draft. I think he's going pro after this year.

Christ, and people were comparing Woodbury with McGary? Comparing an 18 year old to a 20 year old is hardly fair.

McGary was the No.1 ranked player in his class for well over a year, this is the type of production that Michigan envisioned when they got him. That said, I don't think they saw this much production coming. In one NCAA tournament game, they discussed that McGary has ADD and it took him all year to "calm" down when it came to playing during games.

I think he is under control at this point and he has credited the Michigan staff for working with him all season and now him able to show what he can do.

How McGary translates to the NBA is still in question, will he play in the NBA, yes, but I am not sure how he fits. His jump shot is improving, but his FT's are getting worse as the season went along.

The comparison to Woodbury is null and void as they are totally different players. McGary came in with a physical presence and ready to play. Woodbury did not come in ready physically, but that is just part of being a freshman, so are and some aren't. McGary is clearly the better player and it isn't, nor has it been close, but that isn't to say Woodbury isn't a good player because if anyone thinks that, well, sorry.

Mcgary is a pf that can step away from the basket and play face up. Woodbury is a center who is all back to the basket and screen and roll. He has a lot of things to learn but both are different players and both will have chances for the pros. Mcgary is closer to nba ready but both have the physical make up to possibly get there. Again Woodbury is like two or three yrs away from ready where as mcgary could possibly make it now and definitely make it next year.

Lots of bigs are bad free throw shooters, not just Shaq. Chris Dudley? Not exactly a dominant player.

Besides McGarys got a nice looking shot, he can easily improve that percentage with a little effort.

McGary has developed notably over the course of the year. It's normal for college bigs to take some time to get it together, sometimes 3+ years as with Lohaus, Jepsen and many others who ended up playing in the league. The fact McGary has become a major factor as a frosh tells us nothing about Woody or any other young big.

And barring injury, I'd bet a large sum of money that McG will have a long, productive NBA career, albeit not as a star. Guys with his build and skills often enjoy 12-15 year careers as role players.

I like how this guy has 3 good games and all the dramatic knee jerk... told u so so so posts come out...

I hope he goes pro after the next game...

I think he will get drafted when he opts to leave. I definitely don't think he's special by any means...at this point. Last night he faced another big man likely to play in the NBA and came back down to earth. He still has work to do in college IMO.
